I have an Abit BX6 2.0, Celeron 566, Golden Orb and an Abit Sloket !!!. After about 30 minutes I get tearing in the video or booted back to the desktop when playing games and can't figure out what is the cause. The video card is a Voodoo 3 3000 AGP, AGP muliplier is set at 2/3 and the card is not overclocked. The voltage to the 566 is set on the sloket at 1.75 and even though I don't have a temp probe the air blowing out of the fans is cool. RAM is PC100 set at CAS 3, latest BIOS.

Thanks for the help.

cooling...sounds like you need more cooling...

or you may just have a chip that doesn't like to be overclocked

I'm not completely sure it's the processor. When you start seeing that tearing effect in games, or whatnot, that can't be caused by the processor. That HAS to be something caused by the video. My guess is that your voodoo3 is overheating. I saw the same type of thing when a friend of mine tried running his new processor (PIII 550) with a voodoo banshee. It was basically melting the banshee because of how much information it was sending to it. My guess would be try some better cooling, or a different video card.

You could always run a CPU stablity test, like RC5 or Prime95 to test if your CPU is stable or not.

You could try underclocking your videocard 6mhz or so, and see if that clears it up. If it does, you know its heat related... if not, its something else.

If it turns out not to be your video, you may want to jerk the voltage down. I'm only running at 1.55v core and still stable at 850MHz in an Abit Slocket III, Abit BE6 rev 1, 64MB Generic PC133, ISA Cirus Logic video card & a D-Link DFE-530TX+ 10/100 network card.

By the way, it's not a gaming rig as you can tell by the video card. It's my trusty crackrack and it's doing over 2.46 MKeys/s in RC5-64.

voodoo's are notoriously hot, put a turbine/fan over the cpu on the voodoo and also put a case fan blowing on the back side of the v3.

Play a game till it tears, then shut down the puter, and put your hand on the BACK SIDE (hint: ground you hand for static first) of the v3 board on the other side of the cpu, how hot is it? shouldn't be too hot, i'll bet its really warm. My old v3 2000 oclocked almost melted down one day that the main fain stopped working.

Running around 870 slightly overclocked with CL TNT1 and TNT2 cards in BX6R2. I don't belive it's the CPU or the FSB setting. I agree with earlier recommendations to cool the Video card or add more case fans. It is possible that the added heat from the CPU combined with the Voodoo3 is overheating the V3. Lark
