HELP WITH CIV IV!!!

I have Civ installed on my work machine which previously just had a Nvidia 5200 PCI (not express) installed. Yes... I said 5200 PCI. While playable it was slow and tedious at times.

So I got my hands on replacement card for free... 5700LE AGP. Figured it can't hurt any to toss it in there so I did. Now when I launch the game the opening movies and "adverts" play but I can't see them... just a blue screen. I can hear them though.

Once I get to where the menu should be I get the spinning globe backdrop and the "CIVILIZATION IV" banner/logo above but there is no menu displayed... yet it is there.. I can still click and hear it doing what it should be doing... just I have no idea what I'm clicking on.

I've uninstallled, reinstalled, updated to latest video drives but nothing at all works. Same result.

Any suggestions?

that sux, i love civ4. the freakin bararians piss me off, generating unit after unit with one or no cities.

anyway, the only time i've had that problem is when using modded/beta drivers, which i doubt you are with that card. is there another driver rev. you can find/try?

I've tried everything that I can think of...
Luckily I can still play at home, but I'm bored here at work over my lunch now.

i'd try civfanatics to see if others have had a similar issue. otherwise you might be SOL :sad;

I remember hearing that a patch came out for the game that addressed several performance issues. You downloaded and installed the latest patch for the game?

everything is patched 100%... I even tried all "Steps" of the patches: 1.0, 1.09, 1.52 etc

I would suggest reinstalling. Maybe something in the config is messed up.

The best option right now is to try uninstalling the game (after you back up your save games), and then reinstall the game.

Do you have issues with any other game that you had installed previously? If so, then maybe there's a problem with that vid card. Or perhaps you should try a different version of the video card drivers cause some work better than others (especially for older cards).

I tried Rome Total War and its the same crap as with CIV. Wonder if its the card or if its the swap from PCI to AGP or something

well I went to MS and got the latest when it first started happening, so don't think its that.

I remember having this problem but can't remember what I did to fix it. Have you tried cleaning up your display drivers using Driver Cleaner and reinstalling it?
