Help with friends camcorder

This is an email a friend sent me. I have never gotten video off of a palmcorder nor used Firewire so I did not want to give her the wrong answer. I am assuming someone told her she could not use USB perhaps she is using USB1, since USB2.0 is faster than FireWire if she had that port it should work correct? Also how do you tell the diff between a USB1.0 and 2.0 port? Thank you.

I have a mini Palmcorder which records video on lil discs....which will fit
in my computer....I have a usb connector which I have been told will not
work...as I have window xp????? any way i was told i have to buy a fire
wire. to get my digital video from my palmer recorder into my computer to
save in a file,,,whereas i was going to use the software you mentioned....

now here is the thing...i don't mind buying the $3.49 firewire, however what
the hell do i need it for when all i need to do is use the lil bitty disc
and go from there....why do i have to plug in my damn palmcorder anyway..

p.s i don't have a memory card in my palmcorder...the video is all saved on
my lil disc???

now what.....see i am trying to download the video...move it all to a larger
disc and edit them and add music for wheeler's award night coming up the
last week in february.......you know what does a mom have to do......

The computer will tell you if a High Speed USB 2.0 device has been plugged into a USB 1.1 port
Most new computer built in last 2 years are USB 2.0 .. as to Firewire, the computer would most
likely need an addin card .. some models may already have it ... check owner's manual or look
on the computer for a Firewire Jack like this

That shows what a Firewire jack looks like ... the reason to use it is because of its speed
You can put the MiniDVD into the pc dvd drive and then use windows file manager to move
the files off the minidvd onto the hard drive and then use some sort of a video editor to do
what you want with them. It should work fine.
