Help with FTP and Bypassing School firewall.

I do believe I have a specific IP assigned to me.

I want to run Serv-U so I can connect from home on the weekends to download stuff onto the home Shuttle Rig.

I tried to connect but I think the firewall is blocking me out.
How can I bypass this ?

I pay tuition, I think I should be able to access my PC to files and stuff.
The weird thing is, sometimes it connects and sometimes it doesn't.

When I log onto www.whatismyip.com it gives me one IP address, but that differs from the IP that is assigned to me. Why is that ?

Nope, but it would be nice if I got some advice here.
The admin is real slow. My rooms Ethernet Jack is loose and I've put it a service call to get it fixed, but they won't even come and fix it.
It would take them nights and days to even give a response.

Probably because that's the network's external IP and the one you're assigned is your IP on the network.

most likely cause the one your assigned is a local ip while the other is the schools public ip.

any clue as to getting the pc outside of the network to connect ?
I have no problems having my roommate connecting to my PC. But the one from home can't.

Could be a LAN Ip address. That would be my bet.
Another option is a USB Flash Drive. I picked up a 64 meg one for like 30 bucks. You can find the 256's I think for aorund 50 on sale.
