On a new build, I'm using an i7-860 on ga-p55a-ud4p with corsair hx1000, ocz 4gb OCZ 1333 reapers, and Msi r4890 cyclone oc. I have hooked everything up and I get several short beeps. I read the troubleshooting and it says to unhook peripherals one at a time. I have nothing hooked up now other than the motherboard, cpu, and fans. I have tried with hard drive and without and the error beeps stay the same...several short beeps. According to the manual, that is a power fault...but I don't know where else to look. I have power and one beep, then a pause and then several fast short beeps. Please help.

The problem is that I get the same beep error no matter what is connected. I noticed two power connections on the board, an 8pin and a 24pin. The video card uses two pci-e 6pins, but the beep doesn't change no matter if the video card is powered or not. Same beep with it connected or disconnected. So what are the 8pin, 4pin, and 12pin you referred to?

I have heard of this board being somewhat picky with RAM.

Got any other DDR3 you can test with?

My P55A-UD4P works perfect with my G.Skill.

I don't have any other RAM on hand. I'm going through Gigabyte's online tech support...now that the Chinese new year is over. It only took a week to get me first reply. They asked if I had anything other than the video card installed and that I should only put RAM in the first white slot. Same error. I re-read my e-mail to them and it stated exactly that I had already connected and disconnected everything. I had one person tell me to try to blow the connectors out with compressed air to see if dust was keeping me from getting a good connection. I told him I would try it as I'm running out of ideas myself. If this were the first computer I've built, I could understand some problems...but this is the first one I've ever had any problems with in...well, showing my age now...15 years.

Well.. Building a computer is not rocket science.. If you can't get it to work, there is definitely a problem with something... Dust, seriously? You'd have to have piles of it to make a problem like that... Which you wouldn't because you're refreshing your setup and probably cleaned things up a bit.. There is a problem. Dust is not going to be the issue.

I'd consider trying to find some other DDR3 to test with, and if still no go... it would appear DOA.

I hadn't refreshed my own computer in over 4 years when I installed my UD4P.. I connected everything up and pressed power. It worked the first time, as you'd expect.

Good luck

same as the others.. if i had to pick one i'd say memory is the issue. there may be gigabyte forums that you can look at to see what other brands of ram people are using. if it's not that i guess i could be a bad motherboard.

My latest update is that the Power Supply checked out to work perfectly. I ordered some Kingston HyperX 1600 which was on the Gigabyte website under memory support list. I started to order the G.Skill, but my theme is blue and anodized aluminum. I am still open to any suggestions, and I would like to thank everyone who have posted suggestions already. I'll post again when I've checked with the new RAM.

Try re-seating your processor. When you remove it, check the contact pins on the board, not a single pin should be bent. When you put the processor back, apply some pressure with your hand and gently shake it. What is your PSU model?

The question is......how many short beeps are you hearing after the one long beep? They do mean different things depending upon the number of beeps......

Your motherboard's BIOS error beep codes go like this:

One long and 1 short beep.....memory or motherboard error

One long and 2 short beeps....monitor or video card error

One long and 3 short beeps....keyboard error

One long and 9 short beeps.....BIOS ROM error

Continuous long beeps.......video card not seated properly

Continuous short beeps......power error

Latest news is that it was a bad cpu, I have the replacement, however, Gigabyte is still testing my board. For those that mentioned RAM, it was fine. Thanks for the ideas.

I have the exact same motherboard and CPU as you but my RAM is is Mushkin 4GB 1333MHz and I have similar problems. In fact, I don't even get to the beeps. I get the fans powering up for about a second, then down, then up for 12 seconds and so on in 1 sec and 12 sec cycles. All the time there is no display. I have logged a request with Gigabyte support. We'll see what happens.

Have you replaced your CPU and is it OK now?
