Hi, I got an AXIA 1Ghz (200) from newegg and an ABIT KT7a-R mobo. It runs fine at 1450mhz (114x12.5) and it POSTs at 1463(11x133) but windows gives me a Registery error at anything higher than 114FSB. What's that all about? Can anyone help me?

EDIT: That's windows98

I have, I've even tried 10x133 and gone as low as 7.5x133, but for some reason windows doesn't like running on the 133FSB, which I don't understand. It gives me a registry error screen that says i have errors in my registry and windows attempts to fix it. It then tells me that it does fix it and then it restarts and gives me the same crap again.

sound like your memory...also did you raise your voltage at all..

i have a 1.2 going 1.55 now only 1.8v.

crucial mem.

Yeah, my Vcore is at 1.85v and the memory is Corsair PC150 Cas2 so it shouldn't be the memory that's F*cked up.

Whats the registry error? or is it the infamous blue screen.
Did you try to reformat, adjust the multiplier to 10x133(or whatever) boot to DOS again then try to reinstall win98? if possible..
Or even b4 that, did you try to raise the voltage up on the memory yet?- sounds crazy but it's worth a try.. not by much though.

Okay, since i couldn't remember exactly what the error messages were, i'll explain how things went. When i up the fsb to 133, Microsoft Registry Checker pops up during the win98 boot screen and it says "You have restored a Good Registry File. There was a error in a system file and windows has backed it up from an original copy." or something along that line. Then it restarted and although it should've been fix, it gives me the same thing again. Sometimes if i get lucky, it'll pass the Registry Checker and boot up into win98. but soon as it boots up, it gives me a system file error and then it gives me a blue screen. I dunno why it does this, i mean, 133 FBS shouldn't be a problem for my PC150 Cas2 memory and KT133A chip. Anyway, how do you up the voltage in the ram? I have an ABIT KT7a-R board.

EDIT: BTW, Reformatting might solve the problem but I'm trying to avoid that. It's like my last option.

SiLow, that error message is usually caused by windows receiving corrupted data from the memory. This doesn't mean the memory is screwy, it's possible the harddrive is corrupting data instead.

It could be your PCI bus. If the default for the system is 100MHz, the PCI devider is 3 to give you the 33MHz that the PCI devices run on (100/3). Increasing this overclocks your PCI bus as well, and this is not very tolerant of overclocking - often resulting in the data corruption that causes your problem.

However, set your system clock to a default of 133MHz by the jumper (I'm assuming there is one on the board) and the PCI diveder is set to 4, again, so the PCI devices run at 33MHz (133/4)

I hope this made sense!

Check your motherboard, there's probably a jumper to change your DRAM voltage, although that shouldn't be needed.

I had this problem a few years ago on WiIN95. I found some obscure FAQ's on MS's website. It was something with the way BIOS was treating memory. I don't remember specifics, but sure enough, once the change was made, no problems. I apologize for the vaugeness of my response.

yeah... that is vague t's okay tho. I'm sure that the problem is not the PCI bus, because I have an ABIT K7Ta-R and it's SOFTMENU III bios allows me to change the FSB up to 162Mhz without altering the PCI Bus frequency.

I had that problem when I got my fsb too high on my kt7a r. since I brought my fsb back down to 140 it works fine. good luck

I believe the PCI does go out of spec with your mb even though your using the SOFTMENU III bios. It?s either divided by 3 or 4 of the fsb. So if you set your front side bus to 160 your pci will be 40 and the agp would be 80. Despite what abit says. You can verify this with Sissoft?s Sandra. I don?t have this mother board so I could be wrong about this.
