Help with my home network

I have my desktop and my lab top hooked up to a linksys etherfast five port hub , i have my att at home cable modem plug in the uplink slot , desktop slot 3, notebook in slot 4 , i am able to share the cable modem with both and get on the internet , but i am not able to share drives or files , they don't appear in each others Network Neighborhood, i have them both in the @home workgroup and print and filesharing is checked , i am running black ice defender on each computer and have both there ip adresss in the trusted adress section, any one know what i night have done wrong?
i am running windows 98 se on both computers

did you create a lan workgroup?? it almost sounds like you have shared the drives to the @home wan...

how would i go about doing that ? i have to have @home as the workgroup in order to connect to att @ home i thought

Without looking it up, it would seem that the "@" would be an illegal character in a workgroup name.
Do you have a drive or printer shared on the pc's?
Also check the BI is allowing Netbios neighborhood, it doenst by default. It's in the settings for BI.

U need network file and print sharing...but u need to have NETBIOS protocol loaded as well as the TCP/IP. But unbind the TCP/IP with file and print sharing as well as the CLient for MS. Change your workgroup to Athome or something like that...don't use @ like someone said above, that is an invalid name. Make sure both computers have same workgroup. then when u share the file or folder. Map the drive manually since windows sucks at network browsing. You can map by right clicking on My computer or Network neighborhood. Use the \\computername\sharename in the connect to field. If you try browsing you might not see anything or can't browse at all.

you guys kick ass , my network is now up an running , one more question how do i map the drives , that way i have it setup now i have to go into Network Neighborhood click on the computer i want then click on whatever i shared , and put in a password , theres gota be a better way to do this
