help with my usb scanner.....umax3400

my problem is that when I try to scan now I get this annoying error

it closes the twain drivers that come up...and nothing else.....when I try to load it in again......nothing happens......then when I go to aquire again it tries to look for the scanner but nothing happens..it just gives me this error message that the link between the scanner couldn't be found...this also happens in photoshop..

any same types of problems? or any help?

I am running Win98se.....I got a usb microsoft optical mouse and that works fine......

This may or may not help you. My sister-in-law had a usb Umax scanner she could not get to work. When I visted her I disabled everything that was running in the background and reinstalled the scanner, it then worked, I eventually figured out what it was that was running in the backround that messed up the scanner, but now I do not remember the program. Anyways you could try what I did.
