Hey guy's just got my new PC this morning and I'm having a few problems. Part of it is I'm way outta the loop with new tech and I'm lost in Win 8.1, but i'm seeing a CPU problem also. I installed CPU-Z and when I open it it shows my cpu core speed at like 800mhz with an 8 multiplier but i'm running a 4770K. It does jump up to full speed from time to time, but for the most part it seems like it's underclocking.

Anyone got any ideas on this, or have experiance with a Gigabyte UD3H that would like to give me some assistance it would be really appreciated.

It's supposed to do that. When idle, the CPU slows down to save power. Give it something to work on, like a benchmarking program, or a distributed computing program like the one in my sig, and it should get to the speed you expect.

Ya thanks I figured that it was in power savings just didn't seem right. Also looks like one of the fans on my H110 is moving slower then the other one, and can feel more air coming out. This something I can adjust in the bios?

I feel your pain with win 8. I just got my wife a laptop with it, and I cannot believe anyone ever even tested Win 8 with a focus group to get their feedback. Or maybe MS has just gotten so stubborn and egotistical that they are determined to force what they think is best down the throats of their customers no matter what. I even had to go to the internet to search how to shut down. The worst part is that I am sure all the functionality you need is there, MS just seems to have decided they needed to hide it for some unfathomable reason.

Shut down and various Control Panel tasks can be accessed by right clicking the Start Button in the desktop mode; it was available in 8 too but you wouldn't know it was there, it took me a month to find out about it.

Alternatively, the Charm bar(mouse to one of the right corners) provides access to shut down and, if you're in the desktop, the Control Panel as well.

Right clicking a blank area in the Start Screen allows you to get to the "all apps" screen, which basically the old organization of the Start menu, except you see everything.

Also, the "type and search" remains in the Start Screen.

Speedstep is on all chips now; I didn't know Haswell's low is only 800 MHz while the from the "Bridge" architectures went down to 1.6 GHz.

I personally never had that great of a difficultly with Win8, only minor annoyances with regards to the Start Screen. I tend to shut down via the Charm bar.

I actually used a program called "Ninite" that sets your OS up like Win7 seems pretty good.

After a couple days with the system (and lots of problems) it seems like my system isn't as zippy as I feel it should be. As I addmitted earlier I am way outta the loop and the last systems i've worked with was about 10 years ago. If there was anyone that could give me a little of there time one to one with this I would be extremely appreciative.

This, for sure.

I really think it led to Ballmer stepping down. Win8 was totally out of control, and the shut down thing is just the tip of the iceberg. There's no way they actually listened to any beta testers. I submitted comments myself during the beta phase, and sure enough none were addressed.

My latest pet peeve - how is it that the Charms bar displays different choices depending on whether you're in desktop or Metro mode? I mean, seriously? Now I need to know whether the control panel I need is more desktop or touch-oriented in order to find it? It took me forever to shut off the touchtype sounds a few days ago on my Win8 tablet, because it's not under the traditional Sounds control panel. It's only in the Metro control panel section.

Insane!

Hey, I didn't know that! Definitely going to try that later today when I get back to my Win8 machine!

I use Start8 on my Win8 desktop, but I don't want to stoop to that level on my tablet, given that Win8 was "made for touch." Alas, Win8 is pretty bad on that machine too!
