Help with nForce Onboard Sound

I have a system based on the Abit nForce mboard. I know the onboard sound quality is not as good as a sound card, but I don't think my problem is quality. For about 5 minutes after power is turned on all sound is clear, but after about 5 min all sound gets distorted and fuzzy. I have the newest drivers off the nVidia site. I would appreciate any help.

The system:
Athlon XP 1800+
ABIT nForce MB
256 PC2100 DDR
GeForce2 MX
Intel 10/100 (because I couldn't get nForce LAN to work either)

Try uninstalling the all your nFirce drivers then reinstalling them. If your integrated LAN and sound wont work after that I would drop a line to the motherboards manufacturer and see if you should return the motherboard or maybe they would have a better solution.

Actually I noticed on the nVidia website that the drivers were for Windows 98 SE. And during the install there was no program to install all the win98, but there were for ME,2000,XP. Do you think it could be because I am using Win98 and the drivers do not work properly? I could obtain a copy of Windows 98 SE, could this make any difference?

it should be I was using 2000 Drivers for my Fortissimo and the sound would work for a few minutes then would eventually turn into a loud high pitched screaching sound. You might want to redownload them to make sure the link was to the right set of drivers, cause sometimes links get mixed up.
