Help with old version of XP

I have an old XP Pro sp1 CD. I want to install it on a new machine to replace the old machine that was destroyed in a fire. I don't want to wait a new CD in the mail and the old system had software on it that I want to reregister with it's vendors. I want to put the old version of XP on my new machine and reregister it with Microsoft. How do I do this the correct way with Microsoft?

You get the CD and install it, or get a copy of a CD. I would not torrent an ISO, unless you happen to have checksums for the Microsoft ISO to ensure they haven't been tampered with.

Thanks nweaver, I called Microsoft and they said to just install it like you suggested. Do you think I should even attept to install such an old version and download the newer service packs or just shell out the bucks and try the old software on a newer version?

When you install it and apply all of the updates (including service pack 2) it should be the same as the newer version of windows XP.

Doing it like MS said will work fine. If, however, you have a copy of SP2 on a cd,
which you can get from MS, then you should Slipstream it into you current copy
of XP .. It will make the installation go a lot faster, as opposed to installing SP1
then trying to update to SP2 at it has to take some files out and put new files in.
Better to just install it with SP2 already .. Then add whatever updates came out
after SP2 (not sure how many but I would say about 80MB worth or so.
