Help with PCCHIPS 748LMRT MoBo and Win xP!!!

Hi folks!

My mother's PC is based on a PCCHIPS 748LMRT MoBo which has a SIS chipset (SIS 620 I think). I thing is that I installed WinXP onto the PC and the bundled drivers for the SIS built-in IDE ports won't connect at DMA modes!!!!

I made sure form the Hardware administrator that DMA was chosen whenever it is available, but still upon rebooting all the devices connect only at PIO mode.....

Is there any way to fix this under WinXP?? Before she had Win98 SE and DMA worked fine....

Or is there something like the VIA's 4-in-1 drivers for SIS chipsets??

I checked at the PCCHIPS web site and they have some IDE dirvers for the mobo but only for Win98 and Win NT4... will any of these work under win XP???

check the bios and see if udma is turned on for the ide channels.

also see about a bios update for that board. Some boards require an update to run XP properly.

Visit www.sis.com for the latest AGP driver (advertized for 630 and up only, but this works on 620 too). The package contains new IDE drivers as well.

OK then, I'm going to uppdate to the latest BIOS and try the 630 update package and tell you how did it go......

PD: What is the fastes way to acces the "SAFE POINT" creator??

OK, I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version, made sure that the "Ultra DMA support" was enabled and rebooted to Win XP, but still the HDDs and CD on my mother's PC are set to "PIO Mode Only". I went to the SIS website and found out that there are no IDE drivers for XP no matter which SIS chipset (the 630 driver there was for VGA only).....

any other ideas??

PD: disabling Ultra DMA support seems to be a bit faster than with Ultra DMA support enabled from the BIOS??? Maybe there's a DMA conflict or something??

I said you should download the _AGP_ driver. The IDE drivers are included in this package.

And once again, for you exclusively: There is no such thing as a "conflict" with PCI devices.
This word just is the most sorry excuse for the lack of a real explanation, basically everything
people can't figure out is proclaimed a "conflict".
Please don't use it again, it makes me go through the roof.

OK, sorry about the "conflict" thing.....

I already downloaded the AGP drivers, and tried to use the INF file on them to change the PCI IDE controller but WIN XP would constantly reply that "There's no information regarding you hardware" on the file "I checked SHOW ALL HARDWARE already"

I also tried to switch to the Standard PCI IDE Controller but DMA wouldn't work anyway.....

What else should I try?

Try using the INF file in the appropriate IDE driver directory instead of the AGP driver's on the top level ...

The drivers I downloaded from SIS have all the files under one directory: WINXP\

Maybe you mean other drivers?

Or do you mean that I have to extract the files of the AGP driver into an IDE directory under WINDOWS??

Please help!!
