Help with removing gpu drivers

I recently bought a GTX 970 to replace an AMD 7870. What is the process for completely removing AMD drivers before installing the Nvidia card and drivers?

Will I need third party driver removal software and if so, what do you recommend?

It will pop you in Safe Mode, run the program again and it will uninstall everything. It also has an option to disable the Automatic Windows Driver Update option.

I use Revo Uninstaller Pro for every program, been using it for years and its great. Completely removes all traces 99% of the time.

You also have a forced uninstall, which means you can write the name of the program and it searches files, folders and registry for leftovers for you to remove.

Its great. Hint: Don't restart when the normal uninstaller finishes, run advanced or normal scan and delete the registry entries and files and folders!

I usually go to the extreme when I do things.

1. Download all drivers and DDU.
2. Disconnect from Internet (so Windows Update doesn't try anything)
3. Uninstall original driver using vendor tool
4. Reboot
5. DDU
6. Reboot
7. Manually check for traces of original driver/software (maybe use CCleaner)
8. Install new drivers
9. Reboot
10. Game on!

I have also had times where I just uninstall the old drivers and immediately install the new drivers and then reboot without doing any of the other steps and haven't encountered any problems.

You could modify step number 4. to read "Reboot into safe mode"

Just run install over it. The installer will take care of things. and gives you option for clean install or not. gl
