I found a link posted here in Anandtech last night (after doing a search) on "how to R & R a power supply fan" with a panaflo/or adda. Thought I had bookmarked it but somehow I cannot find it now.

I am trying to replace a DEAD and very noisy 80mm power supply fan with a panaflo (as suggested by the individual who provided the link).

For those of you WHO MAY REMEMBER THIS LINK again, I would GREATLY appreciate it if you could point me to that link. Any advice welcome and thanks in advance.

Gotta fix the soon since my 5 y.o will be bugging me for my PC come Monday (need mine for work and she has been be patient all week while this mom tried debated over replacing PS or just fan).

I think it would be best to play it safe and just replace the entire PSU since the fan failure may be due to something else going on inside the PSU. Also if something does get messed up with the replacement of the PSU fan it can damage everything in the system. Not knocking the move to replace I just like to play it safe.

you're doing a little soldering if you're planning to switch a PSU fan.
if you've got a soldering iron, then it's not that hard! just rip the PSU open and you'll see what you need to do.

It's very easy. I'd say most of the time the fan will die because it was a piece of crap, not because of something going wrong inside of the ps so you'd most likely be safe if you replaced it. The panaflo would be great, maybe i should do that.

Swapping fans in a PSU is a piece of cake if you know how to solder. Just DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING! The big capacitors (cyclinder shaped thigngs) carry quite a charge, and they can hold it for a long time. I managed to zap myself once, and it wasn't a nice feeling..

No problem. Before opening it up, you might want to discharge everything by turning on the computer with the PSU turned off. Also, wait at least 5 minutes before opening it up to allow the electricity to dissipate somewhat.
