Help with setting monitor resolution

Hi, for some reason I can't set my monitor's native resolution of 1680x1050.. it doesn't show it in the list of Nvidia control panel.

I am using a Samsung T220 monitor with my Gateway P-7811FX laptop, connected by a VGA cable. The video card is the Nvidia 9800M GTS.

I tried various video drivers (including the latest) and Samsung's monitor drivers but it doesn't help. The res worked fine for months on Windows Vista and then on Windows 7, but stopped working recently for no reason.

Can anyone help?

1600x1200, but monitor displays a warning if I use it. So I use 1600x1024 instead. Unfortunately both resolutions look like crap compared to the native resolution.. text is blurry, etc.

Try a driver update. May be the driver has a glitch in it right now.

Well I already have the latest Nvidia drivers and I've already tried some older ones as well.

Does anyone else have trouble using 1680x1050 on 195.62 drivers?

I've had similar problems with getting native res but that because of my KVM. If i turn the PC on and the KVM is one the other PC and i don't switch it back before it gets to the windows loading screen, then the video card doesn't get a chance to properly detect the monitor. So it doesn't give me the wide screen res options. But rebooting the system fixes that. The card needs that opportunity while the video card drivers are being loaded otherwise it defaults to the standard res and not the wide screen.

There may be a problem with the card that is causing it to miss the fact that you have a wide screen monitor or the monitor is messed up and not reporting itself as a wide screen.
