NO! Watch #4,5,6 then #1,2,3

EDIT: as in star wars, empire, return, phantom, attack, revenge

Ok, your patience is required here. These numbers represent what exactly? Episodes? Check this.

Agreed! The should be watched in the order they were released.

Order to watch:

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Star Wars Episode II: The Attack of the Clones
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

Then you should read all the books for those, along with the ones in the Thrawn Trilogy!

Well actually I dont know the plot, nothing at all. So you're saying:
4.) The phantom Menace
5.) Attack of the Clones
6.) Revenge of the Sith
1.) Star Wars
2.) The Empire Strikes Back
3.) Return of the Jedi

????

Watch in this order
Episode IV: A New Hope (Star Wars)
Episode V: Empire Strikes Back
Episode VI: Return of the jedi

Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Episode II: Attack of the Clones
Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

Correct. If you are unsure, simply put: watch them in order of release date.

Just watch them according to the order in the series. Makes more sense.

Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones
Revenge of the Sith
A New Hope
Empires Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi

Why?

Might as well watch them from start to finish

You could do that, or you could watch them like most older Star Wars fans watched them. I guess since 123 are not as good as 456 (director-wise), you could watch those first.

after the saga was compelted I undertsand 100% why the first 2 had to be written and filed the way they were.. it ddint make sence till ep3 was complete now the first 3 are perfect and make alot of sence... I would watch them 123456 myself... it really ties the whole thing together now and ep 4 makes alot more sence..

Watch them as they were released

A New Hope
Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
The Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones
Revenge of the Sith

If you watch them the way Lucas wants you to watch them, then there won't be a surpise in Empire Strikes Back when you watch it, IMO, because it will be spoiled by the information from Revenge of the Sith.

Christmas? No. It's Lifeday FTW.

Also, go ahead and include the Clone Wars 'toons between Ep II and Ep III.

Overall, my vote would be for him to watch in timeline order, starting with Phantom Menace, just because I would like to hear his opinions on learning the story in that way. Also the movies will pretty much get better each time, and there will be little disappointment.

Do it like everyone else in the world did:

Star Wars (IV)
The Empire Strikes Back (V)
Return of the Jedi (VI)

Then wait about 15 years and watch:

The Phantom Menace (I)
Attack of the Clones (II)
Revenge of the Sith (III)

So the whole Episodes thing relates to the timeline of the whole plot to all 6? Meaning they all take place in that chronological order of Episodes? Or release dates?

Episodes are related to the timeline of the whole plot; i.e. the plot of Episode 1 happened before the plot of episode 2.

Lets take this from the top....

The entire story was written back in the 70's to be told in 6 episodes. Due to budgeting constraints, episode 4 was chosen to be made first, because it could be a standalone movie by itself. Then episodes 5 & 6 were made when funding was available because of the popularity & success of 4. 1,2,3 were scrapped until the late 90's. In Chronological (Episodal) Order they do go... 1,2,3,4,5,6 but since 4,5,6 came first, there is critical information in 4,5,6 that is needed to understand 1,2,3 if you've never watched them ever before.
Dont watch them in chrono order if your watching them for the first time, watch them in production order.

I think there's information in 1, 2, and 3 that helps you understand 4, 5, and 6 better. I remember watching the later episodes and wondering what some of the things they were talking about were, then finally realizing what they were referring to when the "new" episodes came out.

For instance, in episode 4 Luke hears Obi-Wan fought in the Clone Wars... you have no clue what that is unless you watched them in chronological order. The whole thing just makes more sense if you watch them in chronological order. Otherwise it's like reading a book backwards.

Production order:

1. A New Hope
2. Empire Strikes Back
3. Return of the Jedi

4. Phantom Menance
5. Attack of the Clones
6. Revenge of the Sith

This is the order you should watch them in.

7.) Return of the Jedi

I like this idea. I've never known anyone who actually saw Star Wars in its intended order the first time through.

meh, i think if you watch 1,2,3 first you get this whole picture of 2 political parties in this big struggle... much like reps & dems fight today...
you dont realize until EP4 when the planet alderraan blows up what the stakes really are... rather than just this petty struggle.

I mean look, ep 1,2,3 you get these 1 person sith battles that affect a handful of people, but in EP4 when were talking rule the galaxy, and destroying planets, you realize the fate of the galaxy is at stake, not just a small group of people.

Order of release. The best part about watching the new ones (Even though they weren't as good) was seeing how they would fit in the story and fill in the gaps. Watch them in the order they were intended to be watched!

Or in the order I did:
I watched Spaceballs first. It made a lot more sense once I'd seen Star Wars.

I think most people have seen them in their intended order. If Lucas had intended Phantom Menace to be made and watched first, he would have released it first. Him going back and making the first three movies, is just a way to milk the series for all it's worth.
