help with VIA 4 in 1 driver installation

Hey folks,

I need a little help with 4in1. I ran the setup and it went fine, but after the reboot, Windows was looking for its new drivers and asked where "viagart.cat" was located. I tried to have it look in all the folders where 4in1 was unzipped but never found it. I even looked on my Asus mobo and video card CD but no luck. I just hit cancel and the install completed but it leaves me wondering if I missed something. Matter of fact, there's a strange little glitch appeared on the menu bar of Anand's web page but I don't know if its related to this issue or not. So far, everything seems OK.

Anyone who can help me with this specific information, or educate me on the whole 4in1 thing overall, I would appreciate your help. I admit I'm clueless on this. I did try the readme file and the VIA driver page but both were pretty sparse as far as guidance goes.

This normally happens on the on 4.27 beta drivers(not always), from what I read you just have to skip it when it asked about the viagart.cat file so don`t worry about it,I too have had it ask for location of certain files,I also hit cancel & sometimes on reboot it finds them (weird) anyway it has caused no problems so far.

This also happens when installing the official 4.25 version, but the 4.24 version contains that file, and will install without any problems. Whatever you do, don't install earlier versions over newer versions!

install it in normal mode not turbo and when it prompts your just point it to the 4-1 drivers directory/win98 good luck.

Thanks for the help- I appreciate it a lot! BTW, I was installing the official 4.25 version.

Nic- Does installing in normal vs. turbo have any performance difference?

Another question - The Readme file says the the VIA Registry (INF) Driver and the VIA PCI IRQ Miniport Driver are to be "installed under Windows 98 only". I assume that this means that these will only be installed (automatically) in Win 98 machines. Or does it mean you have to go in Win 98 machines and install them separately? I assumed that running the 4in1 setup installed all four at one time as long as one doesn't cancel any operation. Sound right?

Nate:

Install it in "Turbo Mode." This will set the AGP to run at 4X (more bandwidth) versus the "Normal Mode," which I believe sets the AGP to run at 1X (slow, but done only for stability purposes).
