I have been runnning a 1.1ghz 200FSB T-bird on a KT133a chipset mobo for the last 4 month or so with no problems at all with a GC68 HS/F (running 33`C or there abouts)

I just purchased a Shuttle AK32A mobo so I could slowly upgrade but still use my PC 133 SDRAM....... so I switched over mobos and when I first fired it up I was going through the BIOS and noticed the CPU temp was going way too high (made it to 60`C before I shut it down) so I tried a copper HS I had sitting around and nothing changed, still overheating .........so I thought maybe it was the temp sensor was fubar so I put the old KT133a board back in and it's still overheating (so sayeth the BIOS)

What the hell is going on?????????

Got to be a contact problem... (HS to cpu)

Might have to take the MB out and test fit the HS/fan on the board look from different angles to find the problem...?

Well, the thing is that I tried both heatsinks on both mobos (ewww nasty, my dog just destoyed the air in this room, brb)...........with the same result's, it's driving me nuts. Is there a posibility that you can crack a core that will cause it to overheat like crazy? I looked at the core and it looks fine but I don't know what else to think (will try again with mobo out)

what thermal compound are you using? re-apply it, also is the heatsink orientation correct in which the indented side of the bottom faces the correct way?

There is no way you can be running the AMD T-Bird at 33C even at idle!!!!!!!!!! I have the 1.3Ghz T-Bird and I idle only as low as 45C!!! Even with the GC-68 it's not possible. :disgust:

OK, I was wrong about the temp, it was 43`C (chill out ) but anyway, I got it figured out, each time I changed heatsinks I left the original HS compound on the chip and only cleaned off the HS, when I wiped off the core ( I used my finger) I found a small speck of what I can only assume to be sand that I could barely roll around on my fingertips.

Well, I reapplied some AS and put the copper HS on (sk-6) and she's running fine at 46C but I think I'll try another HS anyway (maybe that Arkua Joe)

Thanks all

I had a 1.4ghz 200mhz FSB t'bird running at 21C. I still have that t'bird. I say had it because I fried it. I had it in an computer w/ 768mb PC133 on a Via KL133 chipset w/ 2 40gb HDD's,1 CD-RW, 1 DVD+-RW, and a Radeon 7000 64mb in it. I had 1 Cooler Master CPU fan in it and 1 exhaust fan w/ ducting mod. That temp was what every CPU cooling prog that I used said and what it said in the BIOS. I was amazed!!!! :Q

Umm, that means it didn't even warm up.........at all, I assume you didn't keep it outside in Antarctica or something. That is (21C) under room temperature, you should have contacted Guiness.
