I recently switched from the A8N sli premium to the A8N32 sli deluxe. I did some preliminary testing using just the stock hs to make sure all components were working and everything checked out fine. However, I just installed my XP120 and discovered that the heatpipes block usage of the first dimm slot. According to the mobo manual, if I want to use 2 dimms (which I do), I have to use the 1st and 3rd dimm slots.

What you guys and gals using on your A8N32? Is the SI 120 any better? I'd prefer something that give some cooling to the passive heatsink/pipes on board.

Thanks

I just did the samething as you and I can use Dimm 1 w/ my XP-120 installed. You have to do a little wiggling around but it fits. At worse, you can always take the heatspreader off your ram for more clearance.

edit: If you have the XP-120 heatpipes facing your ram, why don't you just flip it around? Cooling will be the same and you'll have the clearance you need.

Would the Thermalright SI-120 have significantly more clearence in the A8N32-SLI Delux (as it does not have the cooling fins between the 120mm top portion and the heatspreader like the XP-120)?

Dimms 2 and 4 also work. I am using this config with a scythe ninja.

The SI-120 should give you plenty of clearance. But if you already have a XP-120, I wouldn't bother changing.

if I put the memory in DIMMS 2 & 4, will it have the same performace as 1 & 3?

also, will the 2&4 method still enable Dual channel?

thanks again (i am not the op)

Thanks for the input guys and gals. I just ended up flipping it around so the pipes faced the other way. One of the pipes had about 1mm of clearance between it and the passive copper heatsink, but at least it fit. I tried my best to wiggle the heatsink to accomodate my ram with the pipes to the left, but the heatspreaders on my OCZ ram wouldn't fit. I'm priming now for about 3 hrs and so far so good. I considered using dimm slots 2 and 4, but the manual said to use 1 and 3 if you're using 2 dimms. I'm pretty happy that I don't have to order a different heatsink.
