actually first builds should not be with an extreme system or a system that you have wanted for a long time....try it a few times on some older systems first...i started off by reassembling my old k6 and then reassembling my hp. Now, it is my third time and it went pretty well for my new system...took a little while to manage all the cables in a p180b but now its running great.

Stupid 500 gram Zalman CNPS9500 was so huge, had to reseat it a thousand times to get it on. Threaded both of the mounting screws. HAhaha.

heh, this was my first 775 build and my Zalman 9500 whooped up on me too... I was too overexcited, and put the whole thing together waiting on my processor so I had to install it inside the case lol. Luckly I was smart enought to put the bracket on first though =P

When mounting a heatsink you've never installed before, you definitely want to make several practice runs without any thermal paste. Once you're comfortable with the procedure, apply your thermal paste and go for it. Doing this helps you to avoid messing up your thermal paste application, and thus reducing its effectiveness.

I would rather get E6400 with a good 975 chipset and overclock it.

Asrock may directly reduce your performance by 10% and void you any chance of even a less than decent overclock. No point.

It's the ASRock 775Dual-VSTA, it doesn't overclock (at least not well). I was going to oc the CPU but when I went into the bios and went to FSB and hit enter it wouldn't let me change anything. Weird.

One thing I definitely plan to do is oc the 7900GT. Right now I'm using coolbits and I hit find optimal and my core is 511 MHz and my memory is 775 MHz. What's the deal with that?
I thought it would go much higher on stock voltage. I do plan to volt mod it but I still thought I would be able to get much more from stock. I was shooting for 680 core and 900 memory with the volt mod.
Any suggestions on why it won't clock high?

Just remember the E6600 is faster than an FX-62 even at stock settings.

You don't have to crank it up very much to totally obliterate anything an X2 or high-end FX could accomplish.

Should I get ATiTool or just do manual with coolbits?
And what's an easy way to quickly test for stability after ocing the video card?

Use rthribdl for video card stability. Im sure i spelled it wrong lol, but someone here will correct me.

I'm using ATiTool now to oc the vid card and I was wondering do I have to disablse coolbits somehow so it doesn't overwrite the ATiTool's settings?
And do you know if the memory clock in ATiTool is different? It started my card at 375 MHz for the memory clock which is about half of what it should.

Does anyone know why my memory might be running at 773.9 MHz? I have the A-DATA Vitesta DDR2-533 2GB kit and for some reason my mobo is setting it to that with a 3:8 divider. What the hell?

My timings are 4-4-4-11 but I know I can tighten them up, although maybe not as the speed they are currently running.

What's going on here?

BTW, I managed to oc the CPU up to 290 FSB which is a 9% overclock. Not awful considering anand got 11%.

Got my FSB up to 293 and my memory timings are now 3-3-3-9.
However, the memory now running at 780 MHz. Does anyone out there have any idea why?
The strange thing is that I went into the bios and changed the memory speed from auto to 533 but it didn't help at all.

I'm be worried if your DDR2-533 rated memory was running at near DDR2-800 speeds.

If you can get into Windows, use CPU-Z and verify the memory speed. I wouldn't be surprised if your BIOS was showing it incorrectly.
