HELP!?

I have a 1.33ghz Tbird (not overclocked) on a MSI K7T mobo using a Vantec FCE62540D + arctic silver and I'm getting cpu temps of 131 (55 C) degrees when just web browsing according to Motherboard Monitor. My case temp is only 78 degress (26 C), and mobo temp is 95 degress (35 C). Any ideas on why I'm running so hot? Any help would be appreciated.

that is a pretty hot chip... Maybe MikeWarrior2 could help you out he really likes to talk about heat.

Edit: By that I meant that the chip is supposed to run hot

The MSI K7T boards reads high(compared to other boards), Mine reads 51C idle about 53,54C web and upto 62C full speed. 1100 retail HSF

Ok I feel stupid, I just knew something wasn't right. So, I decided to reapply arctic silver just to be sure. When I took the heatsink off I noticed I had it turned wrong! The core was lined up off to the side of the HS. Well, corrected that and now I'm reading 46-48C browsing instead of 55-58C. If MSI boards do read high, then I supposed I'm getting a decent temp. I'm thinking of overclocking to around 1.5ghz. Do you guys think my temp would still be acceptable if I done so?

Update - I took off my case cover and put a big house type fan (large circular steel) infront of the open side and put the fan infront of a A/C vent (vent doesn't blow very much but helps -- which is why i have a window unit in my room). Well my temps are now (while O/C'd) 98 cpu, 68 case, 73 mobo fahrenheit, and 36 cpu, 19 case, 23 mobo celsius!

One question I had was, it is better to raise bus speed or multiplier? Right now I'm getting 1507mhz from 11 x 137.

I have the same board and had an overclocked duron at around 1 gig. At idle my boards thermistor would register 42C and 48C full load. I ran it 950mhz because 48 was a bit high for me. I was using a Volcano II with standard silicone grease. To me it sounds like your temps are a bit high even for this board. Case ventilation is key. I have an Antec SX830 with 3 fans. 1 in 2 out.

Well, my Thunderbird runs at around 62 C. on an MSI K7T Turbo at 1.377GHz.. No problems with it, either. Funny thing is.. When I set it to around 1.5GHz, the temperature rises only two degrees.. Maybe there's a problem in the heat detection or something.
