this is all under windows 2000 with old and new drivers; i am told that the situation is far better in windows 98

1) Stability: My computer will crash with a blue screen very often, usually when starting an app that uses direct sound; sometimes when i open the philips control panel while winamp is playing an mp3 it will crash
2) Sound quality: Whenever I play an mp3 there will be random pops in the sound; the 5.1 qmss expansion is really cool but it doesn't overcome pops in the sound... I tried transferring a 200mb file over my network while playing an mp3 and the whole thing sounded like it was converted to a machine-gunny effect- it was ridiculous!
2a) Sounds don't sound as "full" as on the sblive

I have had mine for about 2 weeks now and the new 2.0 driver upgrade fixed the minor probs I had and the GUI is really nice. I would not go back to SBlive for nothing now. THe external breakout box kicks a$$ also.

For all you GTXP owners, I have had mine for a few weeks, and I have my stero speakers plugged into the main plugs on the back, they were working fine for a while, then I moved some stuff around and now they kinda hiss, they still sound good connected to the surround plugs, but I would prefer them in the mains. Is this line noise being caused by the cable being too close to other cables?

I am putting together a system like the one you have. KT7A RAID, 1 Ghz TBIRD... I was wondering do you run Win 98 or win 2000? Do you run 2000 with the Hercules XP? Are you a gamer? I just ordered the Audiophile 2496 because I am going to use my computer with my home stereo/theater set up for DVD's and MP3. I have heard good things about the Hercules and I can pick one up for $120, so let me know. Thanks ZAPPLE

Well that system, is the one I am working on, it is not quite up to the specs I have listed yet. I am running Win Me, but am trying to set up a dual boot with Win 2K. So I don't know how well this works with Win 2k. By the way, what is that audiophile 2496 thing you are talking about. I am trying to build a home entertainment system around my computer, so i would love more info.

I have had this for a while now and I love it, but all of a sudden I am getting static in my headphones and my main speakers, but my surrounds sound fine? WTF?

If I hadn't just purchased a Live! 5.1 I would have gotten the HGTXP. Whoever said they got it from Amazon, smooth move. They have the best service and price by far.

I will be returing mine at best buy tomorrow. I hope they aren't all this crappy. I suppose i prolly did something to it though, before this it sounded awesome though. i would redcommend it to anyone.
