The MX200 is not a POS... With the same logic, you'd probably say the the Matrox G450 and 550 are POS as well.
I got my brother an MX 400 64MB for his new system. Guess what? The only 3D he's done is when he clicked the properties screen for Display Drivers under Nvidia and the 3D logo spun around.
If I had got him the MX200 he wouldn't have noticed a diffeence. In fact, a G400 or newer would have been a better choice, since the image quality blows doors over Nvidia cards..
If you want to do high end 3D for newer games then a good GeForce 2 or 3, Kyro, or Radeon are great choices, but not necessary for 3D period.
I still play guys with TNT2s, G400s, and Voodoo 2s that kick my butt in Quake 3 all the time.
If you want the ultimate in 3D visual quality and have so little a social life that you have to play the latest and greatest games at 1280x1024 or higher in 32 bit FSAA then go for something that costs over 6 times what an MX200 costs, but if you don't mind 640x480 16bit low detail while still kickin' the ashes of those GF3 goobers while still having enough $$$ left over for several hot dates then an MX200 will do ya fine.
Personally though the extra $20-$25 is worth getting an MX400, but at under $50 the MX200 is a great card.
