Good for them.

No other way for them to get into the 1%.

Ya, you only seem to have a problem when people actually earn their way into the 1%. Frivolous lawsuit to steal from the taxpayers to get into the 1%? Hell ya. And if you had your way as soon as they got into the 1% they would have to immediately leave the country.

It is not his fault, science has show that he has some broken DNA which is causing him to act that way.

Do you all really have no sympathy for a young child who will live the rest of their life knowing there was a person who in all likelihood wanted to kill them ?

Sure, it's a horrible thing to have happened. Less horrible for this survivor. But is it 100 million dollars horrible?

Or do I just see it as trying to get a quick settlement to not have this be all over the news for so long. Because really, that is the argument they will use over and over to try and get a bunch.

I am suing because I was distracted by the news coverage and missed out on a profitable trade.

people with bad intentions entering schools is certainly common. That's why schools have locked doors.

A couple of points.

1.Filing a lawsuit isn't winning a lawsuit.

2. lawsuits serve purposes other than compensation for victims. They are an orderly process for looking at an incident in as unbiased a way as society has come up with, to identify problems, people who make mistakes, or don't, or people or systems that are or aren't culpable.

3. It is outrageous to ignore the effect this incident had on the children and people who didn't die, probably only because the police responded quickly.

Do you all really have no sympathy for a young child who will live the rest of their life knowing there was a person who in all likelihood wanted to kill them ?

First - people entering schools with the intention for a mass shooting IS NOT COMMON!. How many mass shootings did we have this year in a school? I tlooks like we average less than 1 a year. How many schools are there? 130,000+. A 0.00007% occurance is not common. You did say 'bad intentions' but you can't treat a mass shooter situation anywhere close to the same as someone who wants to yell at a child for no reason (which I would say is a bad intention)

Granted its not winning a lawsuit but it certainly is an expensive exercise in any manner. Litigation isn't cheap - I would argue it has gotten so expensive that is has contorted our legal system. Companies\organizations settle too often for lower amounts in absurd lawsuits simply because it is cheaper and easier to do so. This - in no way - helps our society identify problems or people who make mistakes. It merely encourages people to file a lawsuit for money.

And while there is certainly a negative effect on the child and I do have sympathy for them I don't think its anywhere near $100 million or even $1 million. There are so many kids that have had to deal with far more and have gotten far far less

first thing i said was filing isnt winning. I agree that $100 million for one survivor is a lot.

I also don't think the school is financially responsible but thats an uninformed opinion on my part.

The Today Show (this morning) stated the the school system was immune to such law suits in Connecticut unless given permission (whatever that means).

The state itself has "sovereign immunity" from lawsuits. You can only proceed with a case against the state itself by petitioning the courts first.

This tragedy was neither foreseeable nor preventable as the law suit claims.

You're probably right but that is an issue for a jury to determine. My bet would be that the attorney is counting on a quick settlement since he has a sympathetic client and probably a sympathetic jury (depending on his still in framing the issue of course).

Oh come on.

You don't see more of these happening?

How many have there been since Colorado?

Anyone there armed and able to fire back would have prevented so many killed.

Both criteria fully substantiated and litigious.

You are such a fucking idiot that it makes my head hurt. There's no possible way anyone could have predicted this, 99.9% of schools in this country are perfectly safe. To suggest that the school had some sort of duty to have an armed guard is absurd.

No, no it is not. There is nothing in the Constitution that prevents us from passing laws to prevent this kind of horseshit.
