Nope, if you look at the Tom's article closely, you'd see that you'll need a aftermarket cooler, better RAM, and a very capable powersupply (probably over 500W), which will basically offset the savings in the processor.

Not to mention the heat that Intel chips produce.

Assuming you don't need a GPU, the rig R3LIC posted will be great for gaming. Not ultra high settings, but mid to high for sure.
