When I boot my computer my onboard LAN isn't recognized by ubuntu or windows. I have found a way to make it work though. If I insert a PCI NIC into my mobo on my next boot my onboard LAN will be recognized and work fine. On my next reboot it's no longer recognized. If I remove my PCI NIC it will recognize on the next reboot. Then the same problem happens and I get stuck into a cycle of installing and removing my NIC card between boots. Oh, and the PCI NIC is never recognized. Anyone out there wanna take a stab at why this may be or offer a solution?

mobo: PCChips P23G, PCI NIC: linksys, unknown model.

what revision is the BIOS, and where did you get the onboard lan drivers from, and what is the version for them that shows up in device manager?

I actually don't have windows installed on the system anymore. I did a fresh install of ubuntu yesterday thinking that it was a software problem. So I'm using the generic driver from ubuntu to run the card. I can't believe I haven't thought of updating the bios yet though. /facepalm. i'll check that out now.

not sure if there's any proper drivers in linux for the onboard, if not, you'll need to contact the Linux group for assistance.

the onboard is working fine half of the time, the same as in windows. so i think that its a hardware problem and not a software.

new development: so i shut down my pc then unplugged it from the wall. when i booted it i didn't lose its onboard lan like usual. so it looks like swapping the pci card wasn't the fix for it. the fix was pulling it from power completely and the pci swap was only working because i unplug my pc from power every time i do a hardware change. any other ideas after this development??

replace button battery, and manually test psu with multimeter.

No reason to suspect the battery is the problem.
