My chair doesn't have the posturefit. Instead, it has the lumbar support. Is it worth upgrading to the PostureFit?

I think my excitement got the best of me with this chair. It felt different (nice) at first, but it really doesn't feel all that comfortable (especially at $600). My $50 bestbuy chair probably matches it in terms of comfort. There isn't any support for the lower back with this chair, and my upper back actually hurts after sitting in the chair for a prolonged time (something I thought this chair would help relieve).

For all the hype this chair gets, it certainly falls short IMO.

Paul, there is definitely lower back support. You just need the lower lumbar support piece that hooks into the back of the chair. Yours may not have come with it.

I went to the lexus dealer in town here and every single chair there is an Aeron chair, either the full model or the conference room model. I liked them quite a bit, but I was not 100% sold on them. I found myself leaning forward more than in my current chair, which is exactly what i am not supposed to be doing.

Past couple of places I have worked have had them...they are ok but personally I don't notice a difference in comfort between these and other high quality office chairs...they look unique though...since all good office chairs are expensive then I would say get whatever, just don't cheap it out too much as it will fall apart.

They're expensive but they're very good. Be sure you get the model with all the features. Without all the extra features, you might as well get a cheap $200 office chair.

Also check out the ErgoHuman chair. It may be even better than the aeron.

I have used three different Aeron chairs (I was in the Air Force for six years, and Aerons are used fairly often as a way to burn excess unit funds at the end of the fiscal year). The first was the large size, perfect for me, with all the bells and whistles. The latter two were medium sized and were the base model.

Honestly I've never been that impressed with any of them. The full-Monty model can be adjusted to be quite supportive, and thus is good for sitting for long periods, but even that one is not that comfortable. The base model is really an unexceptional product IMO.

I recently bought a used Herman Miller Equa 2 chair off of Craigslist for $60. Frankly I think it's 85% of the chair the Aeron is, at 40% of the price new (mine is fully equipped, including pneumatic lumbar bolster - I think it sells for $400). Since it doesn't have the name appeal of the Aeron (nothing else does), it, like Steelcases or other quality chairs, is available very cheaply secondhand.

Mine is fully-loaded, but the lumbar support in the back was terrible. It doesn't help my back, instead it just digs into it in an uncomfortable manner. Maybe I'll upgrade to the PostureFit option and see if that helps.

I use one at work. I don't think I could bring myself to buy one for my house, but I must admit that it is a very comfortable chair and very well built. These things get abused like crazy here at the office and they hold up amazingly well. I've never heard of one being broken.

Yeah, I always felt the lumbar support was poor in the Aeron - it's just one big, relatively narrow bar. I don't really find it supportive at all - if anything it just forces you into an even more uncomfortable position.

We have several in our dispatch center, which means they are used 7x24. The chairs have held up remarkably well, and they are easy to keep clean. The people that like them best are the ones who tend to feel warm; the mesh back helps them keep cool. I'd certainly like one in my office.

Yeah, the chair does an awesome job of dissipating heat. I'm very warm natured but I can sit here all day and feel comfortable.

The lumbar in my aeron chair had the ability to slide up or down. If you slide it all the way down, it slides out (IIRC). I slid mine out a LONG time ago and have been using the chair without lumbar support for as long as I can remember.
