I just installed HOMM3 (that's a product that's installed on every PC I own)
on my new PC which has Dell 2005FPW attached to it. When the game
starts the picture gets stretched to 16:10 proportions of the monitor. I want
to run it in a window, and I was certainly able to do that under Win98/Me on
one of my older laptops. Is there a way to get HOMM3 to run in a window
under XP?

Should be a graphics card setting. In my nvidia control panel, there is a selection for how it handles non-native resolutions. Poke around!

LOL

I feel excited to hear of a newer offering of the same gameplay.
I should dig out hommiii again...

No, that's not what I want. I just want a 800x600 window with HOMM3
on my 1680x1050 desktop. It's gotta be the windows thing ... and what
pisses me off the most is the fact that it was there in older Windows.
For now, I just set the monitor not to do stretching when the resolution
is set to a non-native one.

Check around (in readme, and on net, and in FAQs like on gamefaqs.com). There's often a command line switch to run many apps in windowed form. Example: -window

Yep..here also.

How exactly could this be a 'mistake'? Bleh.

On the 10-key, 4 and 1 are right next to each other. Mayhap that was the source of the errurr.

@#$^ers!!!
Are there any organizations to complain to? I mean the price has been on their site for a pretty long while and they had to have known about the price it's being purchased for. WTF?!

Doesn't purchase confirmation constitute a contract or something?

Ohh... they do cover their asses in "help" section. Still, it would be nice to check how enforceable this is...

Don't forget the open beta coming up soon:

http://www.mightandmagic.com/us/

Your chance to make the game better
ubisoft says that they plan for it on monday:
http://forums.ubi.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/1851065692/m/5581040104

Gverig: Its covered for several reasons. One being that since they dont charge you until they ship, its not a "contract" yet. Two its in thier policy. Three, this all dates back from the buy.com monitor mistake that many people (including me) for a $50 check as a settlement from a class action lawsuit from one of the first big price mistakes. Since then everyone has put something like that into their policy.

Tried the beta, it looks really nice, which is much better than HOMM4.

By the way, since 5 is not out yet, HOMM3 so far is the best, especially the art.
