Hiro going back to the past should create a new timeline where maybe the girl is saved but that would be a totally different timeline to where Hiro's friend is sitting at the end of the show (the timeline that the tv audience is viewing). At that timeline, the girl is still dead and Hiro is missing, so the appearance of that picture of Hiro and the girl is kind of confusing.

Its simple. The answer is that he did not change the timeline. That picture was always on the wall. For some reason or another, the timeline was kept intact and not changed. Perhaps her death is more important to the future then her staying alive. She was probably pretending not to know him, it would explain why she knew japanese that was not in the book. Perhaps he could not prevent her dying because it would have stopped him from traveling back in time to save her because she wouldnt have died in the first place, thus causing a rift. Of course this is just a TV show so who knows.

I think in one of the scene they shown a sleep study picture/results that was performed by Mohinder's father. I think the soccer kid is a young Mohinder that appears in the adult Mohinder's dream or something to give him clues.
