The final confrontation should have taken 20 minutes instead of just 5-10. They could have had Sylar show some powers that he had grabbed that we were not aware of yet, add some twists to make it interesting. Peter and Sylar could have really had a great battle instead of Peter just conveniently pretty much forgetting most of his powers. He had a bunch of things he could have used (invisibility/time shift/regeneration etc etc), but used none of those. The battle should have been a back-and-forth thing with each guy pulling cool tricks out of his bag, and eventually Peter winning and then blowing up.

Also, why the heck did Peter need Nathan to fly him up? Last I checked he was able to fly as well, so he could have just flown up and not killed his brother.

My guess is that both Petrelli brothers somehow survived the explosion to be back next season.......

I think he was afraid that if he used any of his powers, he'd lose control and explode.

I think he may not have been able to use them because of the instability that was ensuing.

It seems a lot of people complain because Heroes doesn't explain everything... wouldn't you find it boring and mundane if they explained every little detail? This thread would be much shorter .

And what's up with the DVDs not coming out until August when the new season is about to start? That's lame.
Also, no HD-DVD/Blu-ray? Come on now.

Blah pretty lame ending because of all the loopholes.

1.) Why didn't the chearleader shoot peter to stop him like they planned all along?
1.5)Why didn't Peter shoot himself to stop himself?
2.) Why didn't peter fly himself off?
3.) How did sylar not stop the swordsmen when he had stopped him before while time was stopped. This time the swordguy had to run half a mile to get to him and sylar just stood there.
4.) Wouldn't you make sure sylar was dead instead of letting him crawl off into a sewer?
5.) Not really a loophole but for having all kinds of superpowers they acted like superweenies. They should have brought the house when fighting fire, ice, metal, invisibility, flying etc.
6.) Greenlantern could take them all!

1) because it's a bit hard to shoot someone.
1.5) he was trying to control his power with everything he had.
2) see 1.5
3) Hiro's power is one of time manipulation. Plus Sylar probably discounted Hiro's ability.
4) they confirmed he was dead I believe
5) probably akin to throwing a jumping kick in a real fight is a dumb move.

Also to the other posters...this season was sort of unexpected for the writers...the show was picked up immediately and the reason why they had all the time off on this season. Much of the writing was probably a bit rushed.

Next season should be more of a standard tv season.

I see everyone focusing on the negatives of the finale instead of looking at some of the unanswered questions. Obviously we know who Sylar is and that he is alive. However, who is this other person that the little girl referred to? She made it sound like he is much worse than Sylar.

It's being released on HD-DVD.

As for the finale, I also thought there were too many loopholes. The show seems to try and get you to think, and by the time you are actually thinking at the end of the season, they pull off some stupid stuff that goes against the characters they were building.

Sylar could've/should've stopped Hiro since he saw him coming from 2 miles away, Claire should've just shot Peter without hesitation, knowing he can regenerate easily. Peter's brother flying him into space was grand and all, but all he could do is fly, that's not really that interesting . So I'm not concerned that he most likely will not be back. Hell, the only thing I thought that was badass at the end was with Nikki. I always hated her character in the beginning, but I loved how she just took action and busted Sylar in the back with the parking meter. They didn't show any thought with her, she just acted on instinct. Of course, though, Sylar should've went flying across the way when he was hit, since she has super strength and all.

have you guys discussed where sylar got freezing & invisibility from? Thats what I'd like to know! and what exactly was Nikkica's power anyways? someone on another forum said "personality absorbtion" which I am having a hard time comprehending. I thought she was just a strong schizo
I will be back next season, but that finale could've been SO MUCH COOLER. Why don't these TV geniuses read some fing internet forums?

first of all, im a very big proponent of the single future / destiny / fate angle

very disappointed that NYC didnt blow up - thats not true to the predictions that confirmed future-seeing heroes made

BUT, this is my theory for next season...

nathan is gone (presumed dead), but he already won the election and no one except for peter knows for sure if he blew up (could have flown away after taking him up)
sylar knows this information
sylar gets healthy again (not sure how this happens, somehow related to that cockroach)
sylar finds candice (shapeshifter) in that building where the final confrontation was held, and kills her and gets her power (which he displayed in the future ep)
then, he blows up new york using the power he stole from ted (he is not harmed by his own power)
with NYC in shambles, nathan dead, sylar assumes the identity of nathan. he convinces the other heroes he flew away after he took peter up and no one is the wiser.
we THOUGHT nathan died at the hands of sylar based on teh future ep, but this could have been the way he died
this still all fits with the paintings and predictions

all the predictions showed nathan as pres, but in reality could have been sylar posing as nathan all along.
since hiro is now back in time, all the heroes are mostly injured, and people think sylar is dead, he could set the explosion off with little resistance.
i dont think peter is dead, but he knows the truth about his explosion. so what doesnt jive is his future self claiming to be the one that exploded. they could write some explanations for thsi... like when nathan took him up he lost consciousness and sylar-as-nathan tells him he couldnt get him far enough away? problem with this tho is that earlier when peter blacks out his combustion ceases...

well thats my theory, id love to see that as ep 1 next season

Not gonna happen. More than anything the overriding message of the finale is that the future is not set. Nathan and his mother and Linderman all saying there's nothing anybody can do to stop it......then it gets stopped. Also, in Future Hiro's timeline, the bomb goes off the day after the election, so that future is no more.

Clearly the new villain for Volume Two will be more cerebral in nature....probably telepathic.

Sylar may be alive, but I doubt the viewing public is up for another season of head splitting, so if he is he'll probably be considerably reigned in....likely by the new villain.

He doesn't have invisibility. He got freezing from Mr. Walker. You saw this when Parkman was introduced and he found Molly in the stair cubby hole/closet.

To me, Nikki's power was always strength, but her ability to use it was hampered and quite possibly everything caused her split personality. You notice that once Jessica "gave in" to Nikki during the scene with Linderman and then Nikki fought against Candice, Nikki then had the strength and Jessica didn't appear again after that. I believe they finally "became one" and that Jessica was more of a manifestation of her power that she finally got under control.

It's possible that the bomb could still go off, I believe when Hiro initially saw the bomb explode, it happened in broad daylight, not at night.

Or the future could still happen, and just the threat of the bomb blowing up (over the city) is enough to set events into motion. After all, it didn't look like New york city was a nuclear wasteland in the future. It was messed up, but that could happen through something else.

1.) Because his brother (her father) didn't want it to happen that way. He sacrificed himself to provide another way out.
1.5) I'm betting he was in a diminished capacity. Earlier he passed out while flaring up.
2.) See 1.5
3.) He was pre-occupied with Peter.
4.) Yeah... But then again I was thinking Peter and Sylar would both get killed, now I'm thinking they both live.
5.) Meh...
6.) o rly?

1. she didn't have the balls to pull the trigger.
1.5 he was using every ounce of his energy to prevent himself from exploding
2. same as above
3. sylar saw the comic book. once his mom died he saw the future as inevitable. he makes it a point to make the predicted future correct.
4. they saw the comic book where hiro stabs sylar in the stomach. just a wrong assumption on their part.
5. apparently heroes was overbudget since the halfway point of the season so i guess they couldn't afford to go over the top with special effects.

A disappointing finale for many reasons already mentioned. I didn't know about the Volume 2 teaser though so that was cool.

Yeah, I think I'll watch some of Volume 2, too. I loved Heroes, but the finale was just pisspoor. I hope they improve it in Volume 2, if not, I'm done with the show.

Watching now, haven't read the replies.

Would be cool if Peter could be as strong as controlling his powers as Sylar. Was pretty bad ass seeing him use the future seeing power without having to actually paint.

Why does everyone expect a 24-like ending where there's carnage? This is NOT going to be like Episode 17 where Jack rips the heads of 20 guys off and you exhale and nearly faint.

It's HEROES.

Remember midway in the season where there was another climax where they had to save the cheerleader? Was there a lot of action? Was everyone disappointed there?

Having seen that you should've anticipated the ending here wouldn't be something crazy.

It was weird and yes there were holes in the plot. Moreover, it was weak. Who cares though, it's still a good show. For everyone who said they were glad they watched 24 instead, didn't you see the ending of 24 coming? Come on. Jack's gonna go in the minute you know someone says NO. And if everyone says NO, he's gonna recruit someone to help him out. Someone's gonna get into trouble, and then they get off the hook, blah blah blah. Once again you're trying to get in and out before the president's plan gets through (Airstrike). The only thing that surprised me was that Josh actually shot his grandpa as usually the villain recaptures the gun in such scenes. ANYWAYS, come on, no originality in that show at all, and still you can say that it was better than Heroes?

No one could've seen this finale of Heroes coming on, but I can guarantee you everyone of you 24 watchers could've guessed the 24 finale one way or the other.

To those of you who thought WW3 would've broken out in the middle of NYC, the only show where that's going to happen is 24. Not Heroes. And why didn't the bomb blow up? Cuz another one already blew up in LA =P

lol, and to prove my point good ole Peter goes and collapses to keep himself from going kabooy.

But what is this guy that Molly is afraid of more than the buggy man?

Being a former cop, I'd lay good odds on Parkman wearing a bulletproof vest.
