If its not 65% or more cacao I don't eat it anyway and the companies that make those bars wouldn't use vegetable oil in it .

EDIT: I guess I should say something.

Hershey chocolate tastes like hammered dog ass compared to everything else. Even Nestle is far superior.
I dont even like chocolate that much and I still dislike Hershey.

What exactly is in hershey's "chocolate" in this new formula? I thought cacao = chocolate. Cocoa butter = cacao. Cocoa fat = cocoa butter. Where is the chocolate coming from? Are they adding minuscule amounts of cocoa powder or something?

Legally, by FDA definition, chocolate = cocoa solids, not cocoa butter. That's why 'white chocolate' is not chocolate. So long as there are cocoa solids in this product, it can be labeled 'chocolate'. The lack of cocoa butter prevents it from being labeled 'milk chocolate'.

hershey's chocolate sucked anyways

I agree. It's very waxy. Even getting a bar hot off the line in Oakdale was unsatisfying (though the smell was heavenly).

Their only good chocolate is their syrup anyway, their candies' chocolate suck

Considering what it is (simple syrup and cocoa solids (i.e. cocoa powder)) it's much tastier and cheaper to make your own.

If its not 65% or more cacao I don't eat it anyway and the companies that make those bars wouldn't use vegetable oil in it .

% of 'cacao' is not as important as the % of cocoa solids.

Great. Now they're going to start adding large amount of wax too, just like easter candy.

Raising prices makes people cut back. So you just make the package smaller, and do what you can to distract the customer. Psychology is fun.

I'm kind of surprised that they aren't putting false bottoms into the containers - raise up the bottom, and thicken the lid. That way you can have a package that looks like the original size, but has less product.
Andes Mints are a great example of this - the clear part of the wrapping shows the product. Then there's opaque wrapping around the perimeter. Think that is covering more chocolate mints? Nope, it's covering empty cardboard filler.

That's their theory, but I wonder when we are getting an even higher price increase due to packaging to contents ratio going up.

Most annoying part is she uses the word "wherefore" in the article incorrectly. She obviously doesn't know that wherefore is synonymous with "why" instead of "where"...

Good day for vegans. Hopefully more chocolate will be produced without dairy.

I have a bag of chocolate chips been munching on for a week, no dairy in them whatsoever. They taste great.

Um... cocoa butter is not dairy. It's just vegetable fat, like whatever vegetable oil they replaced it with. Only dumbass vegans will be jumping for joy (yes, I realize that's redundant).

Apparently some ATOT'ers don't know how to read linked articles:

In a statement, Hershey?s told TODAY that consumers love its products and all its candies are clearly labeled. It still offers real milk chocolate in Hershey?s Kisses, Reese?s Peanut Butter Cups and its classic chocolate bar.

?And recently it put back the milk chocolate in Almond Joy because consumers complained,? Lieberman said Friday in her report.

Apparently some people don't know how to both read and comprehend articles. They say nothing about removing milk. They are replacing cocoa butter with vegetable oil, as the article says.

Sugar, vegetable oil (palm, shea, sunflower and/or safflower oil), chocolate, nonfat milk, whey, cocoa butter, milk fat, gum arabic, soy lecithin, artificial colors (red 40, yellow 5, blue 2, blue 1, yellow 6), corn syrup, resinous glaze, salt, carnauba wax, pgpr and vanillin.

Yup. Smaller packages tend to be less efficient in terms of package:contents.
The fundamentals of the trickle-down economy are strong.
Unfortunately, the good stuff gets filtered out close to the top.

As long as their premium chocolate line (Reserve?) doesn't change the formula, I'm fine. Their premium chocolate is actually pretty good, but I'll still look to other brands for good chocolate.
But with the cheap chocolate candies, I'm not especially worried. Kissables were pretty good, but I'll stick to dark chocolate M&Ms. mmmm
