In UT2004 demo and Halo, whenever I'm running or driving, changing my direction of travel results in a pause of about a second or so. Running straight ahead seems fine, it's only when I turn a corner or change direction. then I get a lag. Driving a vehicle in Halo is impossible, it starts up and then slows to a stop repeatedly.
This happened just after setting up a new motherboard and processor. I've swapped out video cards, power supplies and cases. I've done no overclocking. I've changed bios settings back to default. Bios has been flashed to current.
System seems to run fine otherwise. I get average scores in 3dMark03 for my rig. I get a good score in Performance Test, although one or two of the cpu tests were somewhat low.
My system:
Mbd: Asus K8V Deluxe
Proc: AMD 64 3200 (retail) with retail cooler
Video card: ATI 9800XT
Memory: 2- 512 strips of Crucial PC 2700
PS: Antec 550 watt True Power
Case: Inwin (new) with 3 stock fans

Thanks.

This is probably a dumb question, but did you get your VIA 4-in-1 drivers installed?

Have you defragmented recently? I'm assuming you have windows XP.
even if it's a fresh format you should always do a defrag.
My Call of Duty was getting slow loading, and after a defrag it opens
up 3 times faster, same on my second pc.

Hmm, next question: does that hold true when you change direction using either the keyboard or the mouse, or just when changing direction with one of the two?

It's a relatively new XP Prof install, and I did just defrag it. I will try the mouse vs. keyboard and get back to you.

Something wrong with the wireless Intellimouse- I reinstalled intellipoint drivers, but still was not sure that fixed it. So I went back to a corded mouse for now. Thanks for the help!

Fascinating Good to hear there's a workaround solution, at least.
