*yawn* the vast, vast majority of overweight people simply need to put down the fork. Its not a bio-genetic thing, its not a lack of a site on nutrition aids, its simply they eat too much. Its really very simple science, no matter how haughty certain people want to get about it.
I thought he was being sarcastic. Maybe not.

That is true unless the thyroid is not functioning properly or that the body is retaining fluids because of some disease. It is just to much food and usually to much of the wrong food too. I am familiar with the wrong food option even do it was not to much.

The father of a friend of mine always used to say : "Genetics, a load of crap. There where no fat people around in concentration camps either".

Yea, there are conditions that disrupt the normal calories in - calories out formula, which is why I said the majority, not all....but a lot more people blame their genetics than realistically should.

Mr. "Lift Heavy or go Home" LOL. I remember you when you wee some skinny 16 year old boy band loving dork here. Hell you were skinnier than Trident and now you are Washington States Power Lifting Champ. IMO you still look to thin to be lifting 1500 lbs.

Even back as a scrawny 125lb high school senior I could bench about 1.5x my weight...not bad for a skinny guy that rarely lifted. Part of being a good powerlifter is being strong for your size/stronger than you look.

Anyway, don't misconstrue my posts as anti-fat-person-ness. I'm not blahblahyoutoo. If someone wants to be fat, more power to them. I don't harbor any ill will towards that. Its the whole victim mentality, woe-is-me-its-mcdonalds-and-DNAs-fault-I'm-fat thing that gets old.

I doubt you get plenty of exercise or that the exercise you do get in reality justifies the multi thousand calorie surplus you probably take in each day. And I don't need a rebuttal because if I was wrong you wouldn't be fat.

ehh, I am fat, but, I have not gained any weight in the last 4 years (have actually lost some weight.) My blood pressure is within a healthy range, I don't show any signs of diabetes. My cholesterol is within healthy levels. Also, no sugary drinks. My calories are almost exclusivly from foods, other than maybe 1 or 2 beers per week average.

justify it however you want it makes no difference to me really. Deep down you know fatness elevates your long term health risks.

I wonder how many of the people in this thread crapping on overweight people smoke cigarettes heavily. Any of you that are are total hypocrites. I'd much rather be overweight than a smoker. Overweight life reversals leave loose skin and smokers with tar in their lungs.

A stupendous amount of exercise BARELY accellerates weight loss. Normal excercise, like a 20 minute walk every day is all you need to stay fit/maintain muscle. Crazy diets never work anyway, so the best thing you can do to maintain weight loss is to change your eating habits to normal caloric intake for your height. If you want to lose weight fast, you will get all of it back plus more. Study after study after study has proven all of the above.

Shit you see on shows like The Biggest Loser is insane!

walking doesn't do anything other than make you hungry. and you don't burn enough calories to overcome gorging after walking. running 20 minutes a day would probably do something.

Running burns minimal calories, especially 20 minutes. It's like leaving the cheese off a sub.

You lose weight with diet, exercise makes you look good naked.

At my weight at least, I'd have to jog 20 minutes 250/365 days a year to lose 25 lbs. Not terrible, I just think there are more effective methods.

You lose muscle first if you just diet without exersize. Running tells your muscles to not breaks down.

Muscles > Diet. You can eat alot if you exercise and have the muscles to back it up.

Anytime you try to lose weight, ALWAYS do some cardio or weightlifting with it. Actually, you don't really even want to lose weight necessarily, weight itself isn't bad, its FAT that is, you want to lose FAT when you diet.

I agree partially. You will not lose near as much muscle as you think you would by dieting alone if you consume the necessary protein your body needs.

Of course I advocate weight training above anything for exercise. Cardio has health benefits other than weight loss, but directly related to weight loss, it's just an increase to your caloric defecit.

The "you will lose muscle first" if you diet alone is a complete MYTH, and broscience.

My point still stands. You lose weight by diet, exercise allows you to look good naked. That doesn't TOTALLY individualize these 2 components from each other.

Only cool people smoke, and nobody in ATOT is cool, therefore nobody in ATOT smokes. This is called logic. Deal with it.

Related to this thread, a few whiles ago I created a poll about slim/fat vs free coffee at work. There seemed to be a pretty good correlation between drinking coffee (ie stimulant drugs) and being slim.

You can burn 300 calories in 20 minutes if you run hard enough. 500 calories for a 45 minute run (around 6 miles) is better and easier to accomplish. Combine that with a little calorie deficit and you can drop 5 or 6 lbs in a month easy. Also keep in mind that if you get your heart rate up high enough you continue to burn calories at an accelerated rate for another hour after you stop running so you burn an additional couple ghundred more than the original amount you burned while running.
