Hey.. How to clean computer monitor screen?

Hey all

I have a nice Compaq P900 Trinitron monitor and just noticed .. (when the thing was off) that the screen is real dirty... finger prints .. spit etc. (oh yeah.. i have a 3yr old )

How do I clean the monitor screen safely?

Any suggestions..

Rub it down with a chunk of asphalt.

water, and a lint free cloth. do NOT use windex or anything like it... it tends to eat away at the AG coating.

I use a soft cloth with just a touch of warm water...takes off the grime but preserves anti-glare coating

I'll tell ya what NOT to do:
Don't put it in the top shelf of the dishwasher!















Every idiot knows the top shelf is for little stuff like mugs and bowls. You gotta put it in the bottom part. Duh.

Definitely read the care instructions that came with the monitor, but a mild solution of dishwashing soap like Ivory and water in a spray bottle should be safe. DO use a lint free cloth. Now, after it's cleaned wipe it with a fabric softener sheet--but only AFTER it's been through the dryer. I use bounce, and borrow them from my neighbor as I send all my laundry out. This will protect the screen from dust but not a 3 yr old with PB&J on wee fingers.

I use Windex and I have a new cotton T shirt reserved just for doing this.

I have always used Windex and always will. Nothing gets my monitor cleaner faster with little or no hassle. I'm sorry but I find the "no Windex on a monitor" chant to be a myth. I don't leave the Windex on the monitor long enough to do any harm. I have used it weekly on evey monitor I have ever had for the last ten years and not a one of them has ever exhibited any problems with the anti-glare coating.
