Shrug. The chips still have not landed yet on rambus and the P4, much yet settled. Not sure if anybody saw it, but the Reg had a link to a person who had a performance scale of the p4 with rambus which looked REALLY good. And of course Intel politely, with probally 20 lawyers pointed at his bank account, asked him to remove it.
But, right now AMD is the only way to go for power vs cost for a desktop. Intel still has a nice strangle hold on the portable market and alot of other markets if you look a little deeper. This war is NOT yet over by far. I am actually quite enjoying it.
You also have to realize that AMD's success was shortly after a few Intel CEO's moved to AMD and reorganized the company to be more Intel like. This was really good in MHO. You bascially took one big silicon giant, took part of his brain and inserted it into a different but similar body. Then, made him(s) [if you get the joke] compete against himself. Sorta like having big blue play chess against itself.
We are living in unprecidented times in the silicon world. Finally the key pieces which allow us to count the red blood cells of our victims are being actively competed against. Memory, video, and processor now all have multiple makers which is wonderful. Even two years ago...your proc was intel, your video S3 for 2d and 3dfx for 3d, and your memory was probally micron. Now you have intel & amd, 3dfx & nvidia & ATI, micron & siemens & toshiba. The world of capitalism has finally hit the PC world and it rules
So, I am waiting to see what happens. AMD might be winning battles right now...but lets see how the war progresses.
