I debate prothelatyzers at the door at lenght. Most leave forsaking all religion. Show any Christian the first third of Zeitgeist and watch the hilarity unfold. Just plantin' seeds...

Oh by the way, the second two thirds of Zeitgeist are fucking stupid. I don't want anyone here thinking I'm some "truther" nut, or non-capitalist, but the part about the sun gods is all fact.

I think I've had one come to the door in my whole life. I don't remember how I handled it, but it was easy enough. If they try to buttonhole me out on the street, a "no thanks" has always worked fine.

Tell them you were excommunicated for speaking out against the church. I tried that once and they disappeared pretty quickly after that.

Uh, no. They didn't really kill anyone. The Romans crucified Jesus. The jews just didn't like him because he wanted everyone to be happy. Jews hate being happy.
Jewish people didn't care too much. Jewish clerics cared a lot because Jesus was a trouble maker and a rival.

Which one are you gonna use? The big black one or the small white one that vibrates?
Whichever one my girlfriend already owns. I don't like spending money when I don't need to.

There was no Jesus for the Romans to crucify. He is a zodialogical allegory. The "cross" he died on is a group of stars called The Southern Cross. The "he" is the sun. The death is the perceived arrest of sun on the horizon for three days due to parallax. The resurrection is the return of the sun to longer days, signaling Spring. The entire story was made up so people knew when to plant stuff and when to harvest it. It is far older than Christianity. Modern religions are the leftovers from long dead cultures' oral traditions, which helped them survive, made into story form so they are easier to remember, because they had no writing yet.

I love your use of this anachronism!

They did, but they neglected to put a stake in his heart.

That won't do it either. He rose from the dead. You have to remove the head, preferably "Shaun of the Dead" style with Queen playing "Don't Stop Me Now" from the jukebox....

Crux is easily visible from the southern hemisphere at practically any time of year. It is also visible near the horizon from tropical latitudes of the northern hemisphere for a few hours every night during the northern winter and spring. For instance, it is visible from Cancun or any other place at latitude 25° N or less at around 10 pm at the end of April.[1][2]

And where was Jesus...
Bethlehem --> 31 degrees north (crux not visible)
Nazareth --> 32 degrees north (crux not visible)

I set up wireless cameras at front door and side-yard door. No more answering door for pesky solicitors, mormons, or jehova's witnesses

They would have to climb over my gate (or we would have to forget to close it) for them to even get to my door. If either occurs, I open the door angrily while holding my two big dogs by the collar and tell them to get of the property.

I have no patience for that kind of crap.

Do you know what the Southern Cross is?

Do you know what parallax is?

Do you understand the difference between debating why Christian holidays fall when they do and debating whether Christ existed at all?

Visible low in the sky in the early morning hours of the winter months in the notrthern hemispohere. ...right around Christmas! Thanks for providing the link you thought supported you. Self-ownage is always the best kind.

Yes.

Yes. To a person in motion, the appearance of objects further away to move more slowly than objects in the foreground, e.g. while driving the near fence posts move by very quickly while the mountains in the background seem to remain still.

Yes. I contend there is no contemporary evidence of the man Jesus. None.

Don't waste your time with him. Zeitgeist has been debunked by several people, but some morons still buy into it.

Where? I will happily debunk the debunkings. ...or change my mind.

Zeitgeist is nice because it is concise. I didn't learn what is in Zeitgeist from Zeitgeist.

LMAO. The parts that had an effect on him are second two sections where they contend that 9/11 was an illuminati inside job, and that money is bad and we are all economic slaves. Just because the second and third sections of the film are horseshit lunacy, does not make the first segment incorrect. Overall Zeitgeist is an abominable film and I could not agree with it's major thesis less. However it does provide a succint, if not oversimplified version of the evolution of modern religious ideas.

Do your research ahead of time. Strike up a friendly conversation with the Mormons. Shift that dialogue toward some sketchy parts of their beliefs. Question them mercilessly about them. Start building their own doubt. If nothing else, you'll sharpen your arguing skills for posting here.

we get them once in a while. i really don't mind that much. You should visit the temple grounds in Salt Lake. Pretty interesting to learn about the religion and culture, and to see the beautiful buildings. I think the culture is very repressive in some places, but overall the LDS people are great to be friends with and work with.

Take Cialis pill, remove pants, answer door, then tell them how "excited" you are about Jesus. Guaranteed they'll never come back.

What's with people on ATOT who have such a hard time say "thanks but no" and closing the door?

For once I agree with Gayner. That must be a sign of apocalypse.

Most of the people that come knocking for different churches are well meaning and generally nice people. In their minds they're doing something important. I don't necessarily agree with them but I've never had trouble with them leaving when I say "I appreciate the effort, but we're not interested" then either walking away or closing the door.

The whole "argue with them to waste their time and/or cause them to lose their beliefs" thing is ridiculous. If they want to believe something a 5-10 minute argument isn't going to change a thing. You're going to waste your time and get frustrated, they might think you want to talk so its possible they'll keep coming back. Just tell them "thanks, but no thanks" and end the conversation.
