I have currently SONY G400 for about a year and love it.
Have NEC FE950 as well, which is worse in all aspects. (Had NEC FP950 as well, which I returned.)
At other location have Samsung 17" IFT (?), and I like it a lot.

Out of these 3 SONY is a clear winner; didn't see the Samsung 900nf, but if is it same or better than my 17" model, the decision which to get may depend on personal preference.

Think about it like this... The Diamondtron tube (tube that samsung has in the 900nf) is a copy of the sony trinitron tube with Samsung's own improvements over it so it has to be better.

I went to frys to buy a monitor with an apeture grill, and I saw a samsung monitor and all I can say is wow. The tubes are amazingly colorful and bright. I have the cm715 which is 19" and round . I would really reccomend u get a flat, especially when u hit the higher monitor sizes. I must Say the Sony's are great though. Since the monitor you buy you will probably use for years make SURE you are getting the one you want. and not one someone told u to get. Ideal situation is to compare both the monitors at a store and see whice one you want. I would go samsung, because you pay at least 20% more for the SONY name. just my 2 cents

Yes, that's already been stated. Personally I prefer the Diamondtron tubes in Samsung and Viewsonic than the Sony tubes, but go and check them out for yourself.

Just go down to a local store that has them both and look at both models with your own eyes then decide .

Thanks.
I couldn't find any stores in my area with either monitor!
So, after listening to you guys and reading the review, I picked the 900nf.

thanks,

Hey Samsung

Why did the specs on the 900NF lower from 110Khz Horizontal scan frequency (1600 x 1200 at 85Hz) to 96Khz (1280 x 1024 at 85Hz)?

Also noticed the pixel frequency lowered to 205Mhz. This explains the reason it is now only 1280 x 1024 at 85Hz, you need a pixel clock of at least 229.5Mhz to drive 1600 x 1200 at 85.

The Diamondtron tubes are also found in Nec monitors. Not the FE 950's though, they use older shadow mask technology. Dimitri what i said before wasn't stated earlier in the thread.

Sorry, I didn't realize the guy incorrectly stated that Samsung made the improvements on the tube instead of Mitsubishi.

Have to beg to differ on the FE950, though. We got FE700, 700+ and 950 where I work and they are ALL AG tubes.

As you can see, both monitors are excellent. 900NF is based off the Mitsubishi Diamontron NF CRT while the Sony is based off the FD Trinitron. IMHO, the sony yields better color while the 900NF provides better text.

Either way, they're both damn good. Get which ever one you click on first and if it doesn't look as good as it should (it should look damn, damn good) something happened during shipping and it's time to play the trade game until you get a winner.

np dimitri. NEC monitors are really good ones, the higher end ones. I have an old 5FGp 17inch from NEC, nothing wrong with it and been using it for like 5 years. My friends have FE700's and they too are very nice. If I were to get another moniter It'd probably be an aperature grille one from NEC or Samsung, and if I really had the money..splurge on a Sony Trinitron.

Dimitri about your 950, is that an FP or FE one?
