If they say it reduces turbulence and resistance...

You know what will cause less resistance and turbulence than helium?

A vacuum.

In for 4 ... my WHS thanks me.

J/K !!! That's crazy expensive, and I'm not crazy. Ignore my wife's yelling over there.

Every time I see "He6", for a second I think, "Wow that's a really heavy helium isotope."

Price is too high. I got all of my 4TB Seagate ST4000DM000 drives for $125 on average. This is only 50% more capacity for 6 times the price. Or in other words I paid about $32 for 1TB, the Hitachi He6 drive is $133 per TB. A cool $100 more per TB. Thanks but no, I'm not running out of hard drive bays just yet, and if I do it's going to be cheaper to get a bigger case rather than buy these drives.

Now, supposedly this drive is aimed at enterprise market and enterprise might think differently, but I still think the price is too high, even for datacenters and such.

I doubt you will see a helium recycling program. Helium is a waste product of way to many industries. Recently it was $80 for 1000 cubic feet which given the tiny size of the drives (couple of cubic inches at most) I can't see someone wanting to recycle it at this point.

Pretty pricy. I would imagine, that they might institute a drive-recycling program for the Helium inside, if/when the drive fails.

FYI Helium is used on many drives writing the servo tracks these days since everything is a little more stable with helium in there. It's just usually replaced with air afterwards. They're keeping it in these drives to make so many platters work reliably. I assume they had to ugprade a few of the seals to keep it from leaking out as part of the cost adder, but the He itself is not likely a cost adder.

They're not gonna recycle helium just like they don't when you buy balloons that have multiple times the volume of helium that's in a hard drive case.
