If your using OGR and your platform is Win32 I would recommend the 463 version of the dnet client.

There really is no such thing as best contest. It's just a matter of which contest you would prefer to participate in.

OGR - Search for the Optimal 25-mark Golomb Ruler. OGR's have many applications including sensor placements for X-ray crystallography and radio astronomy.

RC5 - Decryption contest for 64 bit key. The goal of the contest is to quantify the security offered by the government-endorsed data encryption standard (DES) and other secret-key ciphers with keys of various sizes. The information obtained from the contest is anticipated to be of value to researchers and developers alike as they estimate the strength of an algorithm or application against exhaustive key-search.

Assuming that you are running OGR, the length of time required to process one stub can vary from 30 minutes to perhaps 9 hours. The 30 minutes to nine hours range is only an estimate and is based on a 1 Ghz PC.

You are given credit for the total number of nodes processed within the stub. So for a stub that requires more time, you receive more credit for the work.

When do I get my stats id number?

How high should the cpu usage be on windows 98?

I have set to only use idle time right now.

You can get your stats ID after your data appears on DNet. Asumming you submit a completed stub before 00:00 UTC, later tonite after the stats run go to here and just do a search based on your email ID.


A process set to a priority level of idle will consume all available CPU cycles, but the responsiveness of your system should not decrease.

It takes DNET 24 to 48 hours to process the work units, depending on when they were submitted.

GO here: DNET Stats Search enter the email addy you are using. If you are found, go to the bottom of the page and click on the "Email me my password" button. Once you have that password, you can join Team Anandtech!

Is there any way I can download mor RC5 packets.
I can only get 3 to 4 at a time.

I am running two machines now.
One is running OGR and the the other
is running RC5.

Change the fetch threshold to a large multiple of 32. Change the RC5 block size to 33.

the dnetc.ini parms would look like this:

Why is it taking so long to get one
packet of OGR to finish. It has been
running all day and I still have not
gotten one packet finished.

Also, is there any way to reduce the
number of OGR packets downloaded.
It currently downloads 24 to 25
packets at once.

OGR work units (WUs) take longer to finish than RC5 ones. The progression bar in OGR is non-linear, that is to say that the last 50% is WAY quicker to finish than the 1st 50%. I would say that if it's over 30%, then you're over half way through the packet, if that makes sense! I'd estimate that you'd do a couple of WUs per day on average with a P2 400. RC5 packets are linear by comparison.

To set the number of WUs downloaded change the dnet.ini file to read

[ogr]
fetch-workunit-threshold=n

where n is the number of WUs you want.
