I cleaned up a friend's Acer laptop of spyware one time and was bored waiting for a Superantispyware scan to end. I sat watching the filenames go by when all of a sudden a shitload of porn video titles go by. Hard core stuff like incest and gay male etc.

Turns out it was a password protected folder right out in the open, maybe in the user folder. Must have been something Acer offers. My friend couldn't have set that up to save his ass so I assumed it was his son's, who shared it.

Personally, I just put it in C:/ATI/Misc/

I created the Misc folder

That worked for years until I got my own computer... I currently have 65gb of the crap... LOL!

Worse than that is fixing a friend's KID'S computer (like 10y/o) and finding a bunch of porn in the browser history :\

Why is everyone assuming he's the kid and not the parent?

Because he says if he puts it in an encrypted folder his dad will delete it lol

OP, you need to get a larger flash drive, external hard drive, or some blank dvds.

If you dont want any traces, you'll probably want to use a virtual machine booted off of a USB stick.

Keeps it out of the web and file browser history on the machine in question.

this thread made me lol. Good stuff, though L&R is ------->.

but honestly, I would recommend something like true crypt, using your own external storage device, such as a flash drive or external HDD, and you can use CCleaner to clear cookies/history/traces.

Whatever in the world you decide upon, which with all these great ideas it's gonna be hard, just make sure you clean the KB and screen please. I would hate for you to be my kid next door and have me over for a PC problem!

Maybe you can start a new thread on how to clean jiz juice off the KB

its weird that ACTUAL important questions of mine get maybe one reply every few days, and questions like this are always getting replied to.

I'm suprised this wasn't moved into OT.

yeah that.. and I'm surprised that the screen that Hacp posted hasn't been moderated by now either. I repost anothers wording of bull**it.. and I get a visit from the mod's. lol

Just goes to show that sex does sell more than PC hardware.

Here's what I do:

1. Put it all in a folder and name the folder something obscure but memorable (like a password)
2. Put the folder somewhere also memorable. Doesn't really have to be obscure. Ex: C:\Program Files\blahblah
3. Open up the command prompt and type attrib C:\Program Files\blahblah +s +h (Of course, you'd replace the location with whichever you're using)
4. This keeps it pretty well hidden. Using the show hidden files option won't show it either. To get to it (for this example), just navigate to Program Files and then type in your folder name into the address bar. You have to make sure to right click the address bar and delete the history each time though
5. To undo the hidden status, just type the same thing into the command prompt except use -s and -h.

Awesome tip. Hiding in plain sight. It's also a very dignified way, unlike sneaking around with a USB drive. It's not a paranoid solution either, no passwords or encryption.

This is a 95% safe method and won't be found out unless someone decides to reorganise storage or use some 3rd party tools. Maybe stuff like windows or itunes will stumble across pr0n, when searching for media files...

One disadvantage remains, files can easily be accessed via "recent documents" in both windows and media player as well es explorer history. For XP it's possible to disable logging altogether, or write a .bat file to one-click delete the /Recent folder, as well as disable history saving in your media player.
But what to do in Win7?

even with truecrypt+ads you're still going to have a problem with references to files with naughty names that show up in inconvenient locations

to get around this, you need to run an OS within the OS, ie Virtual PC
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx

sell the install of VPC of an educational tool but then have a separate, hidden install that you can play around in without fear
