I have a question for those who have wall mounted TV's. I purchased this and this with the plans of just cutting a hole behind the TV and one directly below it just above the baseboard and then running the coax along the baseboard to the coax wall connection

When I initially purchases these items I was planning on mounting the TV on an interior wall and never gave it a thought about cutting a hole in the wall. We changed our minds and now the TV is wall mounted to an exterior wall. Obviously I would now have to be careful cutting into the wall because they are insulated. Would there be any problems dropping the coax cable and the power cable behind the wall against the insulation.

I used this kit on an interior wall that did not have insulation:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Edit:

Just FYI, the power is what you have to be concerned with. You cannot run a standard extension cord or whatever through the wall to provide power to the TV as it is against code. The kit I mention above is provided with a power cable that is designed for interior wall use, and thus should be up to code.

pvc piping and let the cables come out the bottom but you'd have to take out the dry wall

I have an idea for hiding cables that involves some canvas panels that are an inch or two thick due to the frames. Cut some notches in the back of the frames where the cables have to pass through, and route the cables behind the canvases. Paint them solid black, or some other color, or do some abstract Jackson Pollock ish. I'm going to do them all around the TV (top, bottom and both sides) to hide powerline, signal cables, and speaker cables.

i ran a bunch of wires behind an exterior wall that had insulation in there down in my basement. just use some fishing rods so that you can push it through the insulation if you get stuck. i'm pretty sure i ended up running it along the wall, like between the insulation and the back of the wall, because i could angle it with the fishing sticks. it definitely was getting snagged but i just pushed it through.

please don't get one of those things like soulcougher73 posted - those do not look clean at all! do it in wall, trust me, the end result will look a lot better.

EDIT:

and i'm not talking about fishing tape, i'm talking about the fiberglass sticks that won't bend like tape will. the tape wouldn't have worked nearly as wel for this.

Just google "wall fish cable" and you'll find the product you need to get the cables past the insulation. Super easy. A 25 foot steel tape will run about $12 at Lowes or Home Depot.

2-Gang Recessed Low Voltage Cable Wall Plate - White <-- Got two of those and a couple of low voltage mounting brackets (2-gang). Used a $9 drywall saw and ran the cables behind the tv, down through the wall and out behind the AVR equipment. It was an interior wall so no insulation between the studs. Now, if you have run it through insulation you just need to get some of those fiberglass wire installation tool. You can get a set cheap at Harbor Freight.
