Go that kinda route and people will think you're Steven fuckin' Hawking. You know, without the full paralysis, of course.

'You built speakers?!' *drops iPhone and shatters screen*

edit: if you go the 'from scratch' route, a decent Onkyo reciever can be had for $200 or less. Then grab a sub kit and throw any old speakers you have laying around in the rear. I really mean it when I say it will sound better than any equally-priced surround kit. They just do not put any work into those...make it loud enough, make the sound be all around you (LOL 7.1), done. People will rave about their product. But it's crap for music.

You guys don't know how mind-blowingly expensive this stuff.

Take a simple pic of cables like this one!

Yes, high-end cables do lower the noise floor if your speaker/amp combo is good enough to hear such things. But the cables here are probably around $20K for about 3 meters. Those little black blocks keeping the cable off the floor to minimize vibration and interference cost like $50 each.

Yes, high-end cables do lower the noise floor if your ears are capable of hearing such a difference which they 100% are not able to ever

FTFY. And I'm being generous as fuck by even saying there could be a difference. You could take a copper radioshack cable and wrap it in aluminum foil and probably equal what you just posted.

Audiophiles build speaker enclosures and crossovers and stuff, improve the listening environment, do analytical shit like measuring frequency response and generally will just enjoy 'tweaking' things, like enthusiasts of many other hobbies.

People who pay thousands of dollars for cables and magical noise-blocking sea shells and what-the-hell-ever are just morons and also terrible people because they give their money to scam artists and/or other morons when they should clearly just give it to charity so that they may be of some use to the world.

I guarantee you such people would never agree to a blind test of decent, average-priced equipment and such absurd crap. If they actually did, hello humiliation.

There are some things I can understand...people who like vintage instruments and tube amps. Enthusiasts of record players. Situations where 'sounds better' is very opinionated; but at least there are actual differences to be heard.

And there is no empirical evidence showing so called demonstrable improvement in sound.

The same loons believe adding polytetrafluoroethylene "grains" to motor oil improves mileage and increases engine life by reducing friction too! D:

No oil, including pure synthetics, should be exposed to temps that high.
Something is seriously wrong with the engine if it gets that high.

no it is not. I got mine in 1999...

Yeah in 1999. Try finding one now. They are there, they're just not as popular so there's not a lot of them.

Good idea going piece by piece though... never even thought of that. Future project. And yeah 3.1 could work too.

Thanks for the links, I miss the show, no time to attend this year, but it is sad the way the industry preys on the credulous. OTOH its rich credulous for the most part who need places to waste their not hard earned money.

OTOOH I do like the concept of the ICE amps, and hanker for some TAD compression drivers for horns.

Redline might be good that high. Oil has two functions in a modern engine, lubrication, and cooling areas exposed to combustion temperatures, lower parts of the cylinder walls and valve stems, which can be much hotter than coolant temperatures.

Diesels and supercharged gas engine can definitely hit those temperatures.

Two of my favorite speakers, Quad ESL63 (year of design 1963), and Klipsch Forte (middle 1980's), both do freaking amazing things and couldn't be much more different.

The implementation vary, but it is still surface of some sort pushing air, that is what I meant.

Wish I can afford a pair of Tannoy Westminster. Or have the room for it.

I have a friend who 'had' to go there for work. I'm sure it really sucked being 'required' to tour the competition

I was going to write something like this but I got too lazy. Thanks and very well said.

Not all is crazy high end, some are payable like the Dali speakers. The Zensor series is the cheapest of their series:
