Nice job. I'll use this right away when I build my next system using a 6800GT. IS teh stock cooler on the Leadtek good enough?

I am @ 425/1100 now with decent temps ... any real gains with flash? I dont want to have to use an aftermarket cooler.

nice ~ you should be ok since you got that high already.
try to get that mem to 1200 with the GTU bios and youll be all 's

(at 425mhz core you are mem limited @ only 1100mhz)

just to clarify what i said here....

if you are OCing you should replace the TIM for the GPU, memory, and the mosfets. dont forget the mosfets! ~ they regulate the power for your card... very, very important.

hmmm....I did your other Gainward/Expertool Bios, and my 6800gt wouldn't hit 400/1200 without crashing. It did 415/1145 fine though. Will this new bios help me get a higher, more stable overclock?

this bios is a modified version of the Gainward GS GT bios.
it has a few tweaks in it, but you wont OC any higher then you did with the Gainward GS GT bios.

you might appreciate the extra tweaks tho

wow 1.6volts, man i would definately want to use this bios, (only up to 1.4v im on Air) but being at uni i cant afford to replace a £300 card if it goes tits up, stock GT is fast enough for me at the moment as it is, when the cards begin to drop in value, or when im holding off buying a new card (when they arrive) maybe then ill get adventurous

meh i have that leadtek 6800gt and i dont think the cooling solution is quite up to snuff, im seeing 70 degrees on that RHT what ever the hell demo, the one with the floating balls, and thats at stock speeds. i think the case is; its all well and good havin a meaty heatsink....not if its not been installed properly. but i dont wanna take mine apart! looks too big a job! lol

just warning imo that cooler isnt as good as it looks

Hm, do I understand correctly what the new BIOS exactly does?

You give voltage control to userland utilites, and by default you have lower 2D and higher 3D voltage, correct?

I mostly use the card under Linux where I obviously don't have the userland utilities. It is fast enough (yeah I say that now) but I would like to have lower power consumption and fan control (way too loud). Obviously a BIOS patch applies to Linux as well, but will it be controllable under Linux?

hatim ~ bios has nothing todo with picture quality. the memory does OC farther, it might get more voltage, i cant confirm that.


otispunkmeyer ~ most OEM installations suck. replace the TIM yourself, its easy


MartinCracauer ~ yes, stock Ultra @ idle is 1.4v / GTU idle is 1.1v. stock Ultra under load is 1.4v / GTU is 1.4v.
yes the bios will work under Linux. i know nothing about Linux to help you with software tho. w/o OCing software your card will run 350x1000 all the time. which may be what you want, i donno

I have an eVGA Ultra, so by default I would underclock the card from 400 to 350 with that BIOS.

Do I understand correctly that with the new BIOS there is no difference between a GT and an Ultra? Until you overclock where a card that was an Ultra originally will likely go higher?

your card will register as a GT with the new bios. (thats ok dont worry about that)

this is why i nick named the file "GTU", it the best of both worlds for both cards

Well, you could use RivaTuner's "Graphics Adapter Identification" feature to force Windows to identify them as Ultra cards, while retaining THUGSROCK's awesome GTU BIOS.
