The FS/ST forum is a great place to get deals on all kinds of hardware. I wouldn't hesitate to deal with 99.9% of the people there.

I wish..check out what i posted in his FS thread:
wow thats a GREAT price, listen to this irony:
i paid $400 for my eVGA 6800GT which comes with crappy GT reference cooling, 350/1000. I HAD a 9600 Pro in my previous rig, but I sold it to a friend to help pay for my new system! If I would have stumbled across this wonderful deal, I could have had a better card for a lower price.
Bump!

So, with the EVGA 6800 Ultra i ordered, this bios flash would be a nice positive then?

Also, the amount you can overclock is not effected by the tighter memory timings at all with this bios?

My plan right now is to get the card thursday, remove the HS and clean everything with some 91% alcohol. Then apply ASC correctly and install this sucker. Then i suppose i could try this bios flash and go from there. I am 99% sure my ultra will come 425/1100, as that is what the one i ordered for a customer thursday came with. His coolbits only found an optimal overclock of 443/1146, i thought that was kind of low myself.

Anyhow, by all means let me know if any of this idea does not sound good.

BTW, im also planning on doing a windows reload, as im going from ATI to Nvidia, and i think im due for one anyhow. Should i do all this before or after the reload?

The BFG ultra I have is 425mhz core and 1100mhz memory stock. BFG made the first batch of Ultras at 450mhz core and 1200mhz memory I believe but those are very rare. That's Ultra EE speed.

nice card Naustica
the 400x1100 cards are a ripoff. (ooops! didnt mean to insult anyones card)

OrangeParktech ~ the GTU bios will not only make your card faster clock for clock, but it my case it OCs farther. (its in the posted graphs)

OK, let me summarize what this does:

1a) you put a GT bios on an Ultra because the BIOS controls the memory timing and the GT has tighter timings

1b) the ultra will now run at lower clockspeed by default, but if you use coolbits to overclock

2) and your new BIOS provides an interface to control the voltage from userland

Did I get that correctly?

correction~
2) new bios is the same voltage as stock

2b) it is possible to "edit" the new bios file to 1.6v. something water coolers will be interested in.
and lets face it, if your water cooling, youll be able to figure out what needs to be done to edit the bios files voltage

if not, there is enough info posted in my thread & article for anyone thats computer savey to figure it out

All right, thanks.

I am mostly interested in the lower 2D voltage. The card is fast enough in 3D for me, but power consumption is uncomfortable and I want alternate cooling with less noise.

Just theoretically, if my card doesn't like the new BIOS and fails to work, can I boot on a PCI VGA card and flash the Ultra back with its original BIOS? Will your flasher "find" the inactive card in the AGP slot?

Do you have any benchmarks of an Ultra if you don't do coolbits overclocking? Does the tighter memory latency make good for the lower clockspeed?

im glad someone finally realized why i did the 2d voltage mod!

over the last 4 months noone has bad flashed their bios (except for the guy that tried to stop it). you dont even need the PCI card if you can remember what keys need to be hit. (2 - enter - Y - Y - enter)

i didnt bother with stock benchies altho i do have them posted all over the BleedinEdge graphics forum in various threads.

yes the latency will help even on stock 400x1100 cards.

kinda hard to believe its this simple isnt it?

Thanks. I have seen them.

I thought the Ultra flashed would default to 350/1000 if you don't use coolbits?

yes the flash will default to 350x1000 for both 2d and 3d

but thats part of the 1.1v 2d mod ~ less power usage, lower temps

when you OC it to 425x1100 (or whatever) 2d mode will still be 350mhz ~ thats the beauty of it

I don't know if you've already detailed this, and sorry if you have, but you might want to explain what justifies Ultra PCB based cards.
an Ultra PCB has dual molex power connections.

a few GT cards are Ultra PCB with only a single molex (like Gainward) but they are very rare. (they usually have dual DVI ports)

do you think the leadtek 6800GT will have an Ultra PCB, the two cards look identical

no, definately not the same

take a closer look, and make sure you aint looking at the PCIe ripoff card

Did anyone try this with a BFG 6800GT even though thugs is not "officially" supporting the GT's anymore? Currently with a NV 5 (I used BOTH AS5 and ASC, AS5 on the chip, ASC on the ram) I run my GT at 420/1100, idle at 52c load at 64c. I am using coolbits to OC and when I hit the detect optimal it puts my speeds at 432/1140 though I have not gone that high yet.

I would love to push a little more preformance out of it but am not sure at the moment as my card is going pretty strong. Also, not to ask a super noob question or anything... but... what do the MOSFETS look like? Are they absolutly neccesary to remount and can that be done with just AS5/C or do I need to use my AS epoxy?
