tryin it out now
EDIT: didn't do me any good my max stable OC was maybe 5MHz higher, and my 3d temps rose about 5C. i'm thinkin that if i got better cooling that i could push it farther. im at 405/1100 right now, and my idle temps are 51C and load is about 78C.

Thugs: that was the best nvidia flasher ive ever seen. did you change it yourself or is it just the new nvflash? awesome that you included the option to "flash to original bios".
folks, if you have any doubts about this ruining your card, there is basicly nil chance. say you boot into windows and by some freakish chance everything is purple, just boot from the floppy, press 2, enter, and your back to your original bios lol.
Awesome job thugs, i'm keepin the floppy just in case I ever get better cooling ,
Nick

5mhz is better then nothing
yea @ 78*C youre prolly temp limited right now. ill assume you have a GT? (checked... yep)
by comparison my max temp is 70*C (RTHDRIBL) using a copper Ultra reference cooler spinning @ 50%. (435x1200)
try some better cooling (a used Ultra cooler or the copper eVGA GT HS would be good enough) and you should be able togo much higher. even tossing some ASC on the core should help you with stock GT cooling.

you like the flashdisk?
i tried to make it as user friendly as possible, especially if someone runs into trouble.
it uses the latest version of nVflash v5.12 which supports all 6800 cards.

keep us informed if you try this again. with better cooling i know youll do much better

wow are you kidding thugs? just the copper heatsink and some asc and i could get like 430 maybe? how about the NV5? thats copper, plus it exausts its own hot air. i though about watercooling, but its pretty pricy and no guarentee that i could even get any higher.
thanks man,!
Nick lol

hey thugs, cool work. a couple of dumb questions if you would....

is there a way to save my current bios to a flashable iso image since i have no floppy?

also, what psu do you have? would a Tt 480 limit me you think on an evga 6800gt oc wise? i can't get over 385/1100 right now without some artifacting, on a p4 2.4c @ 2.8, 1 gig ram, and what i think are real good temps, cpu 30-45 and gpu 45-55. the rails look pretty good but the spikes on the +12 may be ( goes from 11.84 to 12.16 sometimes, just using a mobo utility or everest) anf the +3.3 is always pushing the upper end of the 5% variation i hear is acceptable.

any input is appreciated. don't really want to mess around with the card if i'm not gonna see any gains due to other limits.

ur psu should be fine, and no, i dont think that you can save your bios image any other way besides a floppy. lets see what thugs says though

meh, ocing video cards is more fun then ocing cpus. bios flashes, voltmods, coolbits...rivatuner. plus, it dosnt take near as long to see if it is stable or not. usually just 10 mins and you can be pretty sure. unlike 10hour prime95...that got old quick. plus, my cpu is maxed out i need to max my video card too
i know you were talking to thugs, i just thought i'd post too cuz im bored.

rise4310 ~ your PSU sounds ok.
the only way to backup your original bios is using the floppy. even if you downloaded a copy of your bios youd need to make a bootable flashdisk, and youd need a floppy for that.

never trust your moboard voltage readings.
mine read way low but my multimeter says otherwise
link for howto measure rails with a m-meter

alot of 6800s suffer from bad cooling.
some ASC on the core or a better cooler is always advised when OCing.

Duvie ~ vid cards are like mini computers
and yes they are very fun

Azzy64 ~ if i told you ive done this at least 500 times over the last 3 months would that make you feel better? this is my 3rd version of this bios upgrade. literally thousands of ppl have done this per my instructions and AFAIK noone has killed a card. the flashdisk is about as iidiotproof as it can possibly be.

boot to disk~
choose an option from the list on your screen~
verify yes you want todo this~
and itll prompt you to reboot when done~

its as safe as safe can get

there are 2 other threads of mine on that site with many, many ppl saying how well its worked for them. check them out.

thx guys for helping support this thread ~ much appreciated (more coffee!)

thanks, i gess i could use a usb jump drive, my mob has that option or mybe just get a floppy first.

anyway, would it make sense doing this thugs if my card currently only manages 385/1100 or so? like i said i don't know if its really a heat issue, i did use as5 when i put on the silencer and the nvidia utility shows real good temps, of course my room is usually cold.

and i usually just hack the nv tweak using just 1 d-word, should i use cool bits2 instead?

thanks
again

sorry, but i know nothing about USB jump drives.

make sure your NV5 is on tight (but dont brake it)
sure it makes sense, give it a try. worst comes to worst youll still be at 385mhz but with a cooler idle temp

i personally dont support coolbits2 or 3. most of its screens show incorrect information and the check options usually do nothing.

HTH

PS: thx for the confidence guys (and the bumps)

So whats the use of using this bios? I mean any real performance increase on the same clock speeds?? And any clue if it will work on an Inno3D?

since you are running a GT you will see a lower idle temp, and a higher OC.

Ultra owners will see a much lower idle temp, much better performance, and a higher OC.

yes, works on all brands.

you might have a lower idle, but GT users will have a higher load. 1.4v as opposed to 1.3, right?

yes, a GT will most likely see a higher loaded temp if on a stock reference cooler.

the GT cooler is a little too small for OCing.
the Ultra coolers are fine if you replace the TIM.
GT owners should definately replace the TIM, now! even if you dont OC
