Also, just imagine, what hardware will be playing at E3 with Jedi Knight 2, Unreal 2, and Doom III (and other games??)

Oh, and I was looking over in Beyond3d forums..

It's interesting, that two of the images seems to be ones that were presented on QuakeCon 2001, that were also leaked by the german Gamestar mag. Since the resolution of the other shots is the same, they might also be almost a year old. A logical conclusion would be that ID or Activision have newer, high-res shots available - if only they'd post them...

If these are indeed 1 year old....

I wonder what they will show now..... at the show......live......on 3 monitors.....

Your all on the wrong track....those were real life photos from what is going right now at E3. The first photo was a guy from Matrox hunched over a guy from Nvidia.

So the guy over at B3D forums was wrong? These don't look like photo's, more like in-game shots....

As the joke flies over Daemon_UK's head, I'll respond.

I bet those shots were taken at about 3fps considering the detail and if they are really over a year old. What was around then? Maybe a GF3. Probably was a slideshow, albeit a damn fine looking one.

The jokes over my head? I rather doubt that. Instead of coming up and looking like an ass, try to respond to threads in a decent way, and don't thread crap.

Anyway. Fine, so these might be high-res shots. Also add to the fact they simple look amazing.

But, why not try to look at this more closely? The DOOM III engine is made to work with DX7 cards only.

Maxtrox's next gen has about 20GB of bandwidth.

My guess is, that JC and Matrox have been talking for a while, and DOOM III must be very impressive, otherwise they won't be showing anything at all.

BTW, point me to where Carmack says Doom 3 is going to be a DX7 game, that's the first I've heard of that travesty.

As for DX7 Cards only, I mis-typed. I mean't DX7 cards only, but and as in using DX7 to the max. Since DX7 has the most penetration of the market place now.

um, Ice, do you remember what the original Atari 2600 football used to look like??? And then take a look at something like Madden 2002

Sports games already DO look very freakin' realistic! And I'm sure when the Madden and NHL 2003's come out later this year, they'll certainly look even better than the 2002's, and maybe even as "realistic" as those Doom III shots.

Sorry, I'm not trying to attack you Ice, I'm just kinda disagreeing, that's all...I just honestly can't imagine how much "more real-looking" sports games can get!

All right.


My chips are on the fact that this will be a DX 8.1 game at least and that DX7 generation cards will choke on it even at 640 x 480 with no eye candy.

A) the Atari was before my time, the first console I played was the original Nintendo
B) Today's games already do look great, I'm just saying they could look better . I own NFL Fever on the XBOX, that game is getting pretty near photo-realism. The face mapping could definetly look better with more polygons though .
