Getting back to the OP: Anyone who thinks this quiz somehow provides a "teachable moment" is deluding themselves. It doesn't require awkwardly constructed sentences with obviously forced wording to get across the point that the English language is chock full of common words that have sexual double-meanings when used in certain ways. A really effective teacher would engage his students' creativity and stimulate them to provide their own examples of the concept rather than make use of this juvenile test.

I'm as accepting of human sexuality as anyone, but that doesn't mean I have to approve of this clumsy excuse for "innovative" teaching.

Well put, and thanks for trying to bring this back on topic.

Along with a host of other issues, this style of "teaching" has helped place America in its less than desirable ranking amongst the industrialized nations for education.

What, a style of teaching that can actually connect this example to the lesson, unlike the large number of people here who can't do that?

What is ridiculous is the number of people ITT who are completely oblivious as to how this applies to a psychology class. It is that that is the problem. Were these people taught nothing in school?

I bring news of a phenomenon to the P&N shut-ins. You are obviously clueless about the world, so I'll bring a little of it to you.

We are discussing politics and news here, people die by the thousands every day from the issues we discuss in here, i'm here to provide insight into the why and what comes next.

You are here to make light of the real world consequences and post oooh tatttooo, omg shiny shit and ponies...

You might think we'd need your kind around here but when you enter a thread about a serious topic you don't want a big arse tattoo of a stupid fucking meme covering your information with some stupid twats expression for how impressed he is about it.

You have your fucking thread in OT, stick to that and keep it there.

Are we clear?

What you fail to realize is that death is irrelevant if there is no life.

You may be operating under some simplistic ethical system in which bare biological function held to be an absolute good, but I do not. Life with nothing to live for would be a curse.
If you want to sit and mope all day, have at it. But don't think that that gives you any sort of perspective. And it certainly doesn't put you above those of us who are balanced enough to see the enjoyable side.

Jeez, I'm dealing with children here. "Hurr, I'm sooo serious about everything. Look how adult I am."
Fool.

There is life, but cartoon ponies making light of important issues isn't the way to go, i'm sure you with your big brain can figure that out.

But you are getting defensive, you know you're wrong and i'll leave it at that.

Have a good one.

That is your value structure: The result of runs through simplistic models.
Mine differs. I do not suffer from your limitations. I do not have to limit myself to only thinking of problems in order to have a mind that can think about problems. I can switch directions; jump track; X across -- it's all easy.

Anyway, it would be an insult to the people who built the First World for me to pretend I live in the Third. Perhaps you like to cut yourself over your middle-class existence, but I do not treat such a gift so casually.
Empathy for others should be kept in perspective. Wallowing isn't healthy and can trigger a desire to become over-involved. Some things cannot be unnaturally elevated -- nature must take its course.

While nature is taking its course... there's time for ponies!

Have a good one.

Holy shit, he thinks it was an English lesson!

Shira, please, pick up an Intro to Psych book.

Please. This "test" has nothing to do with Freud or the human preoccupation with all things sexual. The test is like an obnoxious, inebriated uncle who jabs you in the ribs and hee-haws whenever he fears you've missed the punch line: the sexual innuendo is so forced, so heavy handed, that even a pre-pubescent autistic would "get" it. This test isn't about the sex in your head; it's about the party penis wriggling on your desk. What? That party penis is making you think about sex? Hmmmmmmmmmm

If this lame "lesson" on human sexuality pleases you, your educational standards are rather low. Of course, I skipped right over AP courses and went straight to college before puberty. I guess I was deprived of high-quality educational opportunities like this one.

Agreed, and quoted for truth.

This thread long ago devolved to nothing but giggles, but kudos on your clear-sighted, well-reasoned and biting thoughts on this juvenile test.

Some things just are.

Aw, come now... if I'm to believe everything you've said about your abilities, surely those abilities include enough self-awareness to know why some things "suit" you. Don't be coy.

Case?
There you go again, acting as though I revolve around you. Acting as though the entire universe revolves around you, so that I cannot rest easy until you've prescribed some aspect of the universe's truth through your belief.
Silly Fundie. Neither me nor the Truth are dependent on you.

To the extent that you continue to reply to me and play the game, yes, you do revolve around me.

But I am no norm.

.. a conclusion that is without any demonstration to suggest it.

I have no avatar.
Nor would I call this an argument. It's more that z is asking questions through assertion and I'm deigning to answer. His ego likely can't handle taking on the proper submissive posture so he replaces it with an aggressive one so as not to contradict his self-image. I'll work within the structure defined by his limitations.

I agree it's not an argument. It's too much fun and of too little consequence to be considered an argument. No, it amuses me to no end to see your typed words and sentences (here or elsewhere on the Internet) characterized by you as the mark of a superior intelligence and mind. Your addition of "submissive" and, by implication, the opposite, to the theater is interesting but not unexpected. Arrogance and a sense of dominance always go together.

And besides, my posture isn't "aggressive".. it's "questioning", "interrogative", and "skeptical". I do wonder why you've misrepresented it as "aggressive", though...

That's not what this tread is about anymore.

The important thing is that we've been brought together in our amusement of the rantings of a would-be sexual predator hiding behind pseudo intellectual rantings and a psycho sexual obsession with a cartoon character.

Bipartisan agreement is rarely reached here. Embrace it while it lasts.

If in the bolded section you're referring to the teacher who administered this quiz, then you have no agreement from me.

The puerile thoughts come from the respondent, not the author. Therein lies the lesson. If you cannot see that you have no business posting in this thread.

Oh Jesus Christ. Pick up an Intro to Psych book already! You're embarrassing yourself.

It's really sad that that's the only model you had to go with.

If this lame "lesson" on human sexuality pleases you, your educational standards are rather low. Of course, I skipped right over AP courses and went straight to college before puberty. I guess I was deprived of high-quality educational opportunities like this one.

Definitely. Because it ain't a lesson on sexuality, and that went right over your head. Perhaps if you had had a better education I wouldn't have to tell you that.

No, it goes back through "learn", then "learning how to learn." You can't trace it through the latter for that is involved in the assembly of self. There is no "you" there to query.

The commonality of the thing should've clued you in that it's low-level.

To the extent that you continue to reply to me and play the game, yes, you do revolve around me.

As you seen to think you have some mass in my universe, here's your challenge for the remainder of this thread: Post something that will get me to respond directly with something other than a pony.

OK, junior. Instead of playing games and telling us all of the things you erroneously think this test isn't, why don't you take a stand and tell us what you imagine this "test' actually is? And to make this really challenging for you, try to avoid your tiresomely repetitive use 'of "model," "baseline," "pattern," "structure," "value," "deign," and . . . . well, you really need to work on your communication skills. Employing affected, inapt language calls your intellect into question and makes you appear to be nothing more than a rather pathetic poseur.

You know (well, maybe you don't), merely making a series of boasts about yourself and a series of negative statements about others doesn't constitute a cogent argument. But you apparently lack the faculty to organize a string of coherent ideas that PERSUADES the reader that your point of view is correct.

Oh, that's right, you "reserve" your intelligent banter for a better class of people. Kind of odd, then, that you spend so much time posting here when all those high-flyers are available. And even stranger that you can't produce even a single example of all that high-level prose you've created. Can you at least point us to the message board of the transcendent set?

I expect more boasts, more claims that others are obsessed with you, more insults, more vapidity. Yawn. If you're so smart, how come I can so easily predict your actions?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Critical_thinking

"In a narrow sense, critical thinking has been described as “the correct assessing of statements.”[2] It has also been described popularly and narrowly as "thinking about thinking."[3] It has been described in a much more comprehensive sense as "the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action"[4] More recently, critical thinking has been described as "the process of purposeful, self-regulatory judgment, which uses reasoned consideration to evidence, context, conceptualizations, methods, and criteria."

And to make this really challenging for you, try to avoid your tiresomely repetitive use 'of "model," "baseline," "pattern," "structure," "value," "deign,"

You're going to have to ask more difficult questions for that to be a challenge. I didn't have to write a single word.

Anyway, this is why I said you need to break out Intro to Psych. Psych is considerably broader than just a recitation of the DSM IV.

Low-level? Quelle suprise! No, that's a cop-out. If your mind is as "compartmentalized" as you claim, nothing is beyond knowing... beyond understanding, even about one's self. You should be able to understand yourself objectively.

As you seen to think you have some mass in my universe, here's your challenge for the remainder of this thread: Post something that will get me to respond directly with something other than a pony.

If I have no mass in your universe, why do you continue to reply? If you're just playing the game, as I am, that's about as much mass as an Internet forum conversation can have.

So basically, what we have here is an anime obsessed socially dysfunctional college freshman who just took his first Psych class, and decided now he knows everything there is to know.

Lol prudes.

I thought the test was kind of clever and fairly harmless. Why is this news again? It's not like there's any pictures or anything remotely explicit in there.

I wish Americans were more like the Europeans in their attitude towards sex. Much healthier.
