Of how the human mind works. Funny how a psychology class would be interested in that. Who knew?

OK, I can see that now, thank you. But, couldn't the same be taught using other subject material or examples, that may be more appropriate for minors?

They're 16-18, not 5-8. It's also an advanced placement class, which is supposed to be like a college level course. Nothing that inappropriate for these minors, considering how society, advertising, television, and movies portray these topics.

Love that quiz I don't see what possible point there could be in using it in a class, I mean I'm sure everyone already knows teenagers think about sex almost constantly. But it is fun, and it probably would be funny watching said teenagers answer the questions.

Yes, that's why the legal age for sex is 16...because they need to be 'protected' from 'inappropriate' questions...

There are 1000's of quizzes written by actual psychologists that have answers to logical responses and can prove the point he was trying to make.

This isn't so much a quiz as an email that has been passed around for years "FWD FWD FWD : LOL at this quiz".

Don't confuse what this is, if it was written by a practicing or educational psychologist to demonstrate actual answers that is one thing, this is a teacher getting his rocks off with a forward he received.

At the very minimum it shows a huge lapse in judgment at the maximum it shows a disrespect to numerous professional conduct policies.

It does seem this teacher needs to learn that cleaning out his junk folder is not the same thing as making a lesson plan.

I read the quiz, and answers, again, and I think my reaction was more knee jerk than substance. However, I still am not convinced the same couldn't be taught with other questions that might be more appropriate for the environment.

Of course if the teacher was a hot chick, I would be asking her to give me the quiz but that is neither here nor there. :sneaky:

How about grade school? It's a quiz made up of simple words. It doesn't take a lot of brain power to figure out what the quiz is all about. Third graders, fourth? Tell us what grade level you feel is appropriate. You started out with college and then corrected yourself with the high school remark.

It's a good thing we have educators willing to teach us what we already know, that being that we think about sex a lot.
I used college as an illustrator because it's an Advanced Placement class meant to be just as effective as a college course. I'd say a quiz like that is appropriate when the kids can understand the difference between the questions being about sex and simply being worded to sound like they're about sex. It depends on the person, but most kids would be mature enough to handle that stuff around 16 (10th grade). There's nothing wrong IMO with kids being exposed to some sex jokes below that age, but most of them won't understand the purpose of the quiz below that age.

A lot of people in this country just have their heads stuck so far up their asses due to their own repression that they don't understand when their kids are growing up and can be safely "exposed" to sex. Where's Moonbeam with his self-hate speeches?

For those who think 16 and 17 are mature enough for this quiz, do you also think theyre mature enough to enter a sexual relationship with someone, say, 20 years their senior?

/end trick question

Anyway. Not appropriate for high school IMHO.

Except they'll see soft core porn on a football field in the form of cheerleaders. They'll scenes of extreme violence on TV, and likely throughout their own school. These are students that are almost adults, they can get driver's licenses, register to vote, etc. Some can even enlist in the Armed Forces. And you claim that a quiz with sexual innuendo is inappropriate for an Advanced Placement Psychology class?

I'm no prude and back in the day we didn't have Psych classes in High School, but this doesn't seem appropriate for High School IMO. I give it high marks for creativity though. Rather artistic, I just think this is more appropriate for College/University.

Cheerleaders = soft core porn (pics)? Admittedly, I have not been to a HS football game in years, but I don't think the two are the same on any level.

And if it is, that wrong would not make this right. I have read much better args for this than that, and have actually adjusted my position somewhat as such.

For the psychology crowd: what psychological theory or application is the teacher trying to impart with this lesson?

Agreed. If anything this is either genius in that the kids will remember this lesson forever, or idiocy in that the questions are so distracting from what the teacher is trying to impart.

It's obviously alright for kids to kill each other, but it's definitely completely wrong and immoral for them to think about sex.

For those who think 16 and 17 are mature enough for this quiz, do you also think theyre mature enough to enter a sexual relationship with someone, say, 20 years their senior?
wtf? I think it's strange for anyone to have a sexual relationship with someone 20 years older than them. What does this have to do with the OP?

Awareness of how language and society shapes our thinking.

The sexual repression in this country is overwhelming. It's a sad state of affairs when something like this is even "news". We are a country of prudes, and it shows in our teen pregnancy rates, STD transmissions, and just general bad attitudes.

So, I'm a prude if I don't want my 16 year old daughter reading and discussing with a 40+ year old male the psychological significance of the phrase " people sometimes lick my nuts"? Well, then I'm a proud prude.

Then I would contend that there are many other subjects that could be used that are more appropriate for the ages and setting involved. Sensational teaching reminds me of sensational journalism.
