You had trouble with the riddles, didn't you?

My guess is that you and DS are the kiddos. You have no life experience and are both closet perverts yourselves if you believe that test was ok. Someone putting this out in HS would have his ass fired in most places, it's unacceptable and absurd. Even in college this is edgy unless the class has sex in the title.

If you both truly believe this was ok and are not being little douchy babies who want attention - then you need a girlfriend, a strong parent figure, and serious help.

I love it how in the US we love faux censorship. For example, if I type fu*k with the asterisk, I would be censored. However, but in the * and suddenly it's safe for the kids to read my content. Love the faux mentality.

If I were the parents, I'd be worrying about how their kids might drop out of highschool and marry a loser than worry about this teacher's amusing sex quiz.

How much money do you think we should put towards these problems to solve them?

It shouldn't cost anymore to educate them correctly than it already does.

And HS is the right venue to undo one's sexual repression? How does the knowledge imparted here help undo teen pregnancy rates, STD's, etc?

I get what you are saying, but I don't see the connection between this quiz and the issue you raise.

...there's really no direct connection, but yes, high school is pretty much the venue. It's about when most are becoming sexually active, granted this old pervs idea of a funny quiz isn't exactly the right plan

So, I'm a prude if I don't want my 16 year old daughter reading and discussing with a 40+ year old male the psychological significance of the phrase " people sometimes lick my nuts"? Well, then I'm a proud prude.

I hear you, but to think that that talk isn't going on with her friends would be naive.

The is an Advanced Placement class. Advanced -- as in "ahead." Why do you propose keeping these children behind -- especially so far as to be behind you?

I am sorry if you are so stupid that you must be shielded from facts, but not all people need to go through life completely ignorant of what's going on around them.
The reality of humanity has sharp edges. This doesn't mean that we should close our eyes and try to wish it away. You can't make good decisions in ignorance, willful or otherwise.

Stupid conservatives, always afraid of facts because even the simplest of things cannot fit within their two-inch deep worldview.

Smart people can handle reality. Our worldviews are roomy. When we come upon something that didn't previously fit, our brains have the capacity to extend to encompass it, unlike the conservative mind that rejects anything outside the religious fable forced upon them by their parents.
I'm sorry if you can't grasp that people like us actually exist -- that not everybody has to be stupid and proceed forward with nothing better than superstition to guide them.

What do conservatives like to say: "Guns don't kill, people kill"
Well.... sex don't kill either, people kill. Agree?

I feel sorry for those parents who think that their 17-18 y/o kids would be traumatized by all this. If anything, the kids are having a great big laugh over it all, while the parents act all shocked. To all the moms and dads out there, you guys ever taught your kids on how to use a condom?? I'll bet no. I'll bet your kids learn how to put on a condom from their friends.. now you parents go acting all shocked. Love it.

Great if she gets enough students excited maybe we can move up to 16th in the OECD for science instead of 17th.

As I said I was completely off base. The way to teach kids is to bring e-mail forwards into the classroom and not use books.

I truly mean this; I hope your wife does exceedingly well because I have no idea if it is the parents, students or faculty but something needs to change as we are losing our competitiveness on a global scale. Many will argue it is a spending problem but the numbers simply don't add up. There is another element involved and like any good citizen I have now paid and voted yes for three school levies in the last five years, as an attempt at change that doesn't appear to be coming. The last levy went for defined health care obligations of retirees so further cuts weren't required. I suspect we will continue to see levies that attempt to stop cutting and none that actually entail more money going into the system where the argument is it is needed.

Well, we're Canadian so we're at 8th in science in the OECD IIRC

Its not trauma, and its not "their fiends talk that way". If you do not understand that a test worded the way that one was then you do not understand boundries and profrssional conduct. Ive taken several psych and soc classes and never had a test like that. My neice is almost done with her masters in councling at university od denver and has never seen a test like that.

You seem to have confused "boring" with "professional." The best teachers make things interesting.
If you don't understand the point of the quiz, all your psych courses were obviously completely wasted on you.

His pseudo intellectual blather is especially interesting, considering he spends his free time analyzing the complex sexual relationships between cartoon characters.

Maybe if we didn't have all those righties in Texas re-writing the school books, Our children would be better educated.

Good job, fucking conservatives.

So conservatives in Texas are destroying our future by not focusing on math and science, but analyzing sex-jokes is a good alternative?

There is no true educational value to this, bottom line. Instead of teaching children how to build something, or solve a problem, it's making them giggle about penises and vaginas. Or perhaps our problem as a nation is that children aren't exposed to enough sexuality? Maybe if Bill Nye taught calculus while nailing a stripper, children would understand that everything is sexual, and we'll be on Mars next week.

Unfortunately, we have too many people like DominionSeraph that work themselves into positions of influence, and make up what they lack in actual intellect and logic with self-idealized importance and arrogance. The old insanity is the new sanity, and it's always justified by a "You're not as smart as me". Problem being when the person saying that has actually deluded themselves into believing what they say.

You're not terribly qualified to determine what does and doesn't have educational value, as evidenced by you thinking this quiz does nothing but make them "giggle about penises and vaginas". These aren't 6th-graders that took the quiz. It's 16-18yo's who took an AP class. AP classes, especially in psychology, aren't generally populated by those who "giggle about penises and vaginas".

Hyperbole, it's what's for dinner.

I know what you're speaking of, I've noticed it too.

I've long considered progressivism little more than arrested development. It's a perpetual state of adolescence.

I agree that there is a valuable core lesson that the quiz teaches. However, I think the teacher could have easily crafted a quiz using other subject matter to teach the same lesson, rather than printing out 30 copies of a fw:ed email. If he is at all remotely qualified to teach psychology, he probably should have realized that many parents will have a problem with questions as well.

I do not think this is a fireable offense or anything, just that he should have used his psychology skills to foresee that some parents would have a problem with a teacher asking their children these questions.

I bet donald duck pounds other ducks in the ass just to show how dominant he is

Seems like the only real problem with the quiz is that it's too long. He could have fucked with peoples heads (in the ass) just as well by asking the class to solve one of the riddles. When people find out the answer is something simple, they laugh at it and the lesson goes on.

Why, though? Why should the teacher have to use "other subject matter" or only things the parents won't have a problem with? Would those alternative subject matters have gotten the lesson through to the kids in the same way and piqued their interest/curiosity? The parents' concerns are ancillary. If they have that much of a problem with the class, the quiz, or the teacher hey.. guess what.. they can pull their kid out of the class or the school.

Conservatives are jokes, though. You can't go around worrying about what they think and expect to get anything done.
I shudder to think what a conservative-approved science course would look like.

"In der beginning, der wuz Jeebus."

This.
His job is to teach the students, not navigate the psychological deficiencies of the parents.

You're completely disconnected from reality if you actually believe what you just wrote.
