High temperatures on E6600

I just built a new computer, I didn't buy a new fan, or apply a different thermal paste.

My temperatures are... (while idling)
TAT
- CPU 0 41C
- CPU 1 40C
Core Temp Beta 0.94
- Core#0 36C
- Core#1 36C
SpeedFan 4.32
- System 29C
- CPU 44C
- Core 0 36C
- Core 1 37C

And while both cores are on 100% load (from TAT) for a few seconds, everything jumps to 70C+.

Any ideas on what I can do to lower the temperature? The side of my computer case is already off, so air flow is not a problem.

If you are using it at stock voltage and have applied good thermal paste the right way, there only remains the heatsink. What model are you using? Even the stock cooler should provide lower temps when not overclocked.

Assuming the heatsink fan is operating ... Remove heatsink, remove the stock thermal interface pad(s) (90-99% isopropyl alcohol works great), apply new thermal compound and make sure the heatsink is properly/fully seated. The stock Intel HSF's take a good bit of force to get the push-pins fully seated, that's why I detest them, plus there's no backplate/support for the mobo.

Personally, I'd grab a Zalman 9500LED HSF for $45 from SVC or Newegg, plus some Artic Silver 5 or the Artic Cooling paste.

Alright, thanks for all the replies. I'll try applying some Arctic Silver 5 tomorrow or Wednesday first before I resort to buying a new heatsink.
